And tbh the way I get them looking smooth these days is to always start with a layer of Prismacolor Verithin pencil. I find it gets a smoother base without having to lay down total solid colour (I still like paler, softer pencil rather than zomg filling the paper with pigment). After that's down, then normal softer colour pencil can be added in light layers.

Buuut I really need to do moar arts. >_> Rather than just talking about it!

Hmmmm I have some Verithins...maybe I should try that the next time I want to work in coloured pencil. Lately, I just do marker because I don't have to work to keep it smooth. :D
