Alright, so I'm a bit of a romantic sop.
. . . an ENORMOUS romantic sop :P
I've been wanting to draw an image like this since July 24th, 2011. As a New Yorker born and raised, I have never been as proud of the Empire State as I was that day. I was even at a convention when the act was passed, enjoying the moment with other furs, and my mate Cassie.
As with the Marriage Equality Act, better late than never, right?
I'll be painting this over the next few days.

As far as I'm aware (How I was brought up). Your wedding ring goes on your left hand (Or non-dominant hand). For me, it would go on the left, since I'm right handed. It's something about keeping your marriage clean and untainted from normal day doings, since you'd be using your dominant hand more often, thus getting it more dirty.
It could just be furry "cultural" thing, I mean, us muslims dont wear wedding rings (or shouldn't) and if we do, itd more than likely be worn on our right hands because our left hands are for doing dirty work like cleaning the toilet or things like that. So, in all truth, the ring on the left hand is a western tradition, more than likely british or american in origin.Â
A friend of mine is living in Norway (transplanted Texan) and her ring is on her right hand. She posted a cell phone pic and I thought it was one of those weird moments where the person's phone flipped the picture. I believe she said it was her religion, Russian Orthodox, that is the reason. Also, I think in Spain, it's right hand because I remember reading a thing about it nullifying a marriage when a nervous groom put it on the left hand.
EITHER WAY, I haven't seen it anywhere BUT the ring finger regardless of which hand it gets put on so whatever! :D

there's actually a lot of traditions for it, apparently. . . it's an interesting read -

In this pic, I put it on the right hand to symbolize that the marriage had already occurred. I honestly had no idea how uncommon that was

Heeeey. So I take it you(r family?) is from a European country according to the Wiki article you posted. Do you wear an engagement ring that is separate from the wedding ring then? Or is the wedding ring considered the engagement ring until the engagement is over and then considered the wedding ring once the wedding happens?
...which is complete horse**** I don't see how it's any of the State's business to interfere with that sort of thing. Who does it hurt? Love is not wrong!
Also, I'm really stoked to see more of Reis and Marcus <3 I've really missed them since "Unconditional" and that little "Partners" short comic. ...but at least "Red Lantern" and "Heretic" are completely awesome :)

yea i hear that, although when it comes to immigration multi marriage could cause a flood of people, that and so many people just cant understand poly. either way still waiting for my country to get its act together with marriage equality, even if only to get my international mate into the country with me for good. silly internet allowing me to fall in love with people on the other side of the world.
That sort of thing always makes me twitch. The problem is people in this country associate polygamy with those cult-like beliefs that end up with an older man marrying multiple girls before they're old enough to know what's going on. They don't stop to think that a law could be written that everyone still has to be of age and capable of consenting (and that the practices still happen without the legal paperwork the way that creeps them out anyway). My boyfriend and I had a talk about it once, because depending on the person, we're not objected to the idea of a poly marriage (in our case, provided everyone involved is in love - some people are okay with it other ways though and we recognize that), we figure if it can be written in somewhere that all parties involved must be consenting in all directions, and everyone in the marriage is married to everyone else in the marriage, there's a way to work it. If they're really that fussed, say that only one spouse is allowed to be claimed for tax reasons, the rest are on paper so you can have the hospital visits, make it easier to put them in your wil, and all that other stuff.
As for the immigration, I had been chatting with my friend about that one once - I think now all the marriage does is give the other person a residence permit, but they still have to go through the whole process to be a citizen now. And you have to prove somehow that you've met at least once in person before the marriage or somesuch. Because we were joking about me marrying him so he could move over (his major roadblock is he left school to feed his family, and the US requires you to have finished high school or an equivalent to get the proper paperwork to come here - apparently getting that is expensive as hell in Italy, or at least out of his range right now). Even if that weren't the case I'm sure there are ways they could work it to make sure people aren't abusing it like that. One way being to make the immigration laws a little saner so people don't have to resort to that...

I don't know, not being married yet. For someone single who works a normal hourly job, non-contract, it's simple. I'm told it gets at least a little more complex for married folks or if you run a business, but I don't know in what ways.
But you also have to remember... this is the US. Think about our politicians. That may answer a lot. LOL But it also may very well be that the tax excuse is a coverup to keep people against it and claim it's a logical reason and not some form of discrimination. Because again, I've never had to deal with much in the way of taxes, neither has my bf. So I don't know anything yet beyond copying stuff off my forms at the end of the year to file for my tax returns. >.<;
