This is the first of what I hope to be many new stories bringing a revival to the ARC stories with a new pair of characters. To be honest I had run out of ideas with LD and Talia and while they will still appear in the new ones the focus will be on a pair of new characters who are just arriving at the ARC as well as some old friends from the old stories.
Dolios and Serytia are two new arrivals at the ARC and are taken for their first examination with Talia and Kira.

The whirring sound of a lift was the only thing that Dolios could hear and the feeling of downward movement under his talons. He wondered what was with all the theatrics, after all this was all just for a new job at some research centre. He shifted a little uncomfortably, he didn’t like being blindfolded though fortunately he didn’t have to wait long as the lift stopped and the blindfold was removed.
He blinked his eyes a few times to adjust to the sudden rush of light and he looked around. He was in a clear glass lift with buttons on one side of it and he was with several others. Two were dressed in the white lab coats he knew belonged to the scientists that worked in the Alternative Research Centre. One of them was a red dragon with gold under her chin and he assumed down her chest and stomach as well since it could be seen on the underside of her swaying tail as well. The other was a female red panda.
The other occupant of the lift was a white furred, female unicorn wearing a blue t-shirt and blue jeans with nothing on her hooves. Her horn was quite large and poked up from under her mane/hair. Her hair itself was cream coloured and seemed to have a slight shimmer to it in the light, reaching down halfway down her back and hanging loose. She seemed to be just as nervous as he was and he figured she was another new employee since they had both arrived at the same time.
Dolios himself was a fiery red feathered phoenix and he stood at around 6’8. He wore a plain black t-shirt with a space for his large wings and a pair of black jeans. He wore nothing on his talons as his claws had a tendency to rip the fabric of footwear. His long hair was a golden yellow colour at his fringe and became a fiery red as his hair went down to his shoulders.
The two in the white coats smiled back to them as they walked out and Dolios and the unicorn followed them out into a huge circular room. He looked around before bringing his attention back to the dragoness as she spoke.
“Welcome to the Alternative Research Centre, commonly referred to as the ARC. My name is Talia and my colleague’s name is Kira…” The red panda gave a small nod to both of them. “…now then Dolios and Serytia wasn’t it?” Both he and the unicorn, whom he assumed was Serytia, nodded in reply.
“Right well you both have been selected as new additions to our research team. Up until now you’ve only been given basic information about what we do here for security purposes. Since you are now both going to be working here I can inform you that we work on producing chemicals that induce unusual effects.” Talia explained and Dolios looked rather surprised at that, as did Serytia.
“Uhm…what kinds of effects?” Serytia beat Dolios to the question and Talia just smiled.
“You’ll see in time, all I can say is that we work to make these chemicals safe. For now we need to give you a full medical work up to make sure that you are both in fit condition to work here. My colleague here will be handling that.” Talia said with a friendly smile, looking to the shorter red panda who nodded and smiled.
“Please come this way.” Kira said and they all walked towards one of the doors, which slid to one side of the doorway to allow them entry. They then walked down a long corridor, passing several others in white labcoats and some wearing something that looked more like armour whom Dolios figured were the security here. He was still amazed at how big this place seemed and he wondered how they kept it all hidden.
The walked into another, much larger lift and Kira pressed one of the buttons and the lift started moving down as the doors hissed closed.
“We’re underground aren’t we?” Dolios asked and Talia nodded.
“Yes, we have to be in order to have enough room. You’ll have to excuse to the size of the lift, some of the staff here are quite large.” Talia said with a friendly smile which seemed to hint there was more to what she was saying then just the height of the individuals in question.
The lift descended through several levels before reaching the destination floor and the doors slid open with a hiss revealing another corridor. They all walked down the corridor and Dolios saw several doors on either side of the corridor.
“This is the medical ward, all the examinations are performed here and the medical staff for the whole facility can be found down here as well.” Kira explained to them and led them to one of the rooms where she swiped an ID card and the doors opened.
“Don’t worry, you’ll be getting your own ID cards tailored specifically to you later.” Talia said as they walked into the large examination room with several medical beds along with curtains to pull around a bed for when privacy was needed.
“Okay, if you’ll both sit down on the beds we’ll begin.” Kira said and he nodded and walked over to one of the medical beds and sat down on it, his legs hanging free over the edge. Serytia sat down on the opposite side and they looked to each other, both seeming nervous and excited at the same time. He had to admit that the prospect on researching new chemicals and such had been what had motivated him to apply for a position at the ARC.
Kira then walked over to Serytia and began her examination, it seemed pretty routine, checking in her ears, eyes and mouth for any sign of infection he assumed and she then did the same for him. It was a little different since he had a beak instead of a mouth but the principles were the same.
Kira then checked both of their reflexes, Serytia seemed to have quicker then normal reflexes while Dolios was normal. He noticed Talia seemed to be making notes on her data pad. He had to admit some of the medical technology here was the most advanced he had ever seen, whatever they did down here was certainly well funded.
“Alright, now Dolios if you would stand over there I’ll take a measurement of your height and weight.” Kira said, indicating a set of scales that had been built into the floor. He walked over and stood on the scales which read in at 180lbs in weight and 6’8 in height. He was quite thin for his height but he had always been like that.
“Thank you, now you Serytia.” Kira nodded and Dolios walked back to the medical bed and sat back down and he looked over and watched as Serytia’s measurements were taken. She read at 5’7 in height and 150lbs in weight and he had to admit now that he had gotten a good look at her she was very thin.
Still it seemed they were both satisfied with the results and Talia smiled with a slight sparkle in her eye that was hinting at a playful nature.
“Okay this all looks good, just one more test left…”
