Battlestar Galactica inspiration for the name?

Starbuck is the name of my little girl puppy. She acts like Starbuck too, always pickin fights with her brother...Apollo...

When did you get a puppy?

Since like, September. Technically before then, we got them in July I think - But we had to leave them at Melly's dad's house because we didn't have work schedules to properly house-train them, nor could we afford to make the pet deposit yet. But we visited them most days, so they knew that we were their People. We took them home at the end of August/early September.

Starbuck (girl) and Apollo (boy), I got pictures of them all over my Facebook page. You should go look, they're freakin adorable. Dachsund/Chihuahua mixes. They're only about 9 months old now :)

Here's the the story behind the name.

Basically, I was working on the whole fanfic starbuck is part of one day and in the process of creating the characters for a side branch in the fanon. Anyway came to the time to name Starbuck and I was trying to think what would make sense in the world he is part of, as in what names words and names would be popular in that culture.

Given the collective goal of the remaining Equestrians of finding their lost princess, Luna, I imagined children would often be named with references to Luna directly or indirectly as a result of how she is looked up to and seen as hope for them in the aftermath of a great disaster in the past. So naturally, Star. Then of course it needs to be ponified, something ponies do...hmm. then it popped into my head, he's meant to be a bit of a doer, one to act more than he thinks, always moving, always exploring but mostly, always looking out for those around him. So Buck, an word which would communicate that nature of him seemed appropriate.

Thus Starbuck!
Now the funny bit.....

....I never noticed for a second I had just named him after a coffee chain and a character in BSG till someone asked if he was a coffee pony or inspired by BSG. INSTANT FACEDESK xD
