A friend wanted to know more about my species: Naerians. At the time all I had was a rough timeline outline. So, I endeavored to make something more comprehensive that delves into the, quite morbid, modern history of Naerians.
Basically, the How, What, When, Where and Why of modern Naerian society!

Now that was a thoroughly impressive read, my friend!
I have to admit, I was certainly shocked by this in more ways than one. Even as a summary of events, this is an impressively large file. And, with my first experience of Nalz being in a whole different setting, the contrast was also quite shocking.
But, it's very cool! A unique spin on what, at first I was worried was going to be something in the usual vein of futuristic purity vs. genetic engineering ideology war. A unique twist on what I was so worried was going to descend into an "aliens are perfect, humans are shitty" story. The inclusion of the Meddler's retrovirus, and the war, infanticide, abortion and suicide that followed was a... morbidly fascinating twist that really moved this into a whole new territory. It set a very interesting situation, and the way you expanded from there is what really made this rise above any typical Sci-Fi story.
...may I also say, Mr. Rolson's own little personal asides were quite amusing to read. I think it was a nice way to break this up a little bit, keep it from being a very huge, very impersonal wall of text... and a nice way to have this feel as though it's 'in universe'.
If it was your intention, I certainly don't fault you for the gentle nudges and winks to the reader, too. Especially at the end there: " Take a deep breath and think over what you've read. Read it again to remember the key points and go forward with your new understanding of the Naerians you encounter. They'll appreciate your knowledge of their history and you are better for knowing it."
I didn't need any more persuasion myself, but the gentle coaxing was quite amusing, on a website where the majority of the people here are interested in the D.
Anywho, kudos to you, friend! I've had a grand ol' time learning about Nalz and the Naerians!

Thanks for the detailed feedback once again! I'm glad you liked it. It is rather old and I'm sure it has some issues with continuity and timing. I don't know the formulas to calculate what distance can be covered in how many years spent at 99% of C. I had fun writing it from the point of view of an outsider, someone trying to chronicle events. I'm also glad you felt it gravitated away from being a stereotypical universe.
You're very welcome! And honestly, there weren't any problems that I could see with it. Keeping things a little vague with regard to timing works well, and yet it also kinda works in universe, since I'm sure it would be difficult trying to match up Naerian timekeeping with that of humanity.
At the risk of sounding a tad vain... it certainly inspired a few thoughts of my own too. I wont bore you with the details or attempt to detract from your own writing, but genes play a fairly large background part in my guys too. So this has given me some things to ponder about, absolutely.
So thank you for that. It's been quite fun reading up on all this stuff of yours. Here's hoping I can present something even half as interesting.

Well, I can't take all the credit. I was reading a certain author a lot at the time I was developing the ideas for this. Really, the whole style of gene and body modification came from the author's interpretation of something similar in his universe. If you like to read, the book series is Revelation Space: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revelation_Space . Awesome author.
