Scary scary little 3.5-week-old hedgie babies. Look at those... gums. Terrifying.
Maybe's bubs are too photogenic for my own good.

They're not for everyone. They're not social so they don't "play", but they can bond to their "person" and have a lot of personality compared to some other small pets. They don't require more than one the way rats and ferrets do. They're excellent for a "mid range" pet in terms of maintenance - they have some specific needs that are easy to cover as long as you do some research in advance, and don't assume they can be housed like guinea pigs or other rodents. If you get one from a good source, and it's been well socialized, they're friendly and easy to handle but you will get prickled now and then. It doesn't really hurt, but it can be surprising until you get used to it. As long as you're willing to do some research to really understand them, have some patience when they're going through quilling (like teething, but all over their backs), and can commit to taking them out for about an hour a day (can be just to hold them in a cuddle bag while using the computer, etc) then a hedgehog could make a great pet for you.
