My first outdoor experience in costume. This was taken in front of Westin Convention Center Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, Anthrocon 2012.
I remember feeling nervous about overheating in the feathersuit. Summer heat can be unforgiving in Pittsburgh, and I wanted to stay as cool as possible (for as long as possible) inside of the suit. Fortunately, my spotter (Akil) and I stayed outdoors for only a short little while.
There were some regular folks (Pittsburgh citizens) enjoying drinks outside of the Tonic Bar and Grill, located across the Westin Hotel. They called Manu Koa over, but I felt nervous about the experience. I've never crossed the street in a full costume before. And I've never interacted with "the public" outside the safety of a furry convention. If there was an incident with the public, I didn't know how to safely extract myself out of the situation. Even with my spotter present, I just did not want to take that chance. I decided to head back inside the hotel to stay within the safe confines of the Anthrocon convention.
As for the regular folks at Tonic? They started to "boo" at me when I refused to come over. :P Thanks, guys, for making me feel better! :P (Sarcasm implied.)

That's one of the best photos you've put up. Fursuits always look great in full daylight, and you're certainly no exception.
I can understand you being nervous about crossing the street to Tonic. I was a bit nervous at first, too. However, I had lots of fun once I decided to go for it.
If you're at AC '13, you should cross over. If you feel a bit nervous, wait until you see some other furs over there. That's what I did.

Aww! Thank you for the kind comments. I do love the thought of being outdoors and having my picture taken. There's something great about having your picture taken in natural lighting vs. artificial indoor lighting. I didn't get a lot of outdoor photos of Manu at Anthrocon, though I managed to snag a few outdoor photos at Rainfurrest.
Heheh. I'm glad you were able to overcome your nervousness and walked over to the Tonic Bar and Grill to entertain the "regular Pittsburgh citizens" with your costume. I'm sure the experience must've been so much fun! =)
Sadly, I won't be attending Anthrocon 2013. Work-related responsibilities conflict with the Anthrocon weekend. Though maybe sometime in the future, I'll be brave enough to walk over to Tonic and join in on all of the wonderful critter fun! 1-2 years ago, I observed all the fursuiters interacting with the Tonic customers and people returning home from the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game. Was a lot of fun seeing the fursuiters wave to the passing motorists. The occupants inside of the cars rolled down their windows to take pictures of the fursuiters. Some of the costume performers raced to the vehicles and shook the hands of the parents/kids in the cars. It was great to see such happiness and fun!
