Well, here's my first character. The sketch is horrible, but my attention span was really short when I drew it so go figure.
His forearms end just before the elbow joint, so there's enough there for him to cross his arms when emoting, but not too much that it would spoil the effect of disembodied hands. His male parts have been censored in this one, because I didn't want a mature rating on this one. But don't worry, just because you don't have a lower half doesn't mean you don't have a large ghostly ornament (if anyone wanted to do any mature drawings of him -- oh, and a reminder, HE'S STRAIGHT) Well, here's his profile information:

Nox is definitely a practical joker, like most of his species, because he feeds off the energy from all negative emotions, including embarrassment, just like the rest of his species. When he's pulling pranks, he's nothing but happy, and he's usually in the background, observing them under a thick hooded coat, so that only his ghoulish grin and the red of his irises shines through. If he's caught by the person being pranked, he usually abandons this coat, along with every other article of clothing that he's wearing, when he phases through the floor, which is the best route of escape.
However, when he's not pranking he's very serious, and doesn't want to bothered by anyone, or socialize with anyone. He'd always be focused on something, and would refuse to talk about it. Of course, he didn't join a team by the end of his freshmen year, and was forced into one of the available slots on Team Shining by the Administration.
He's usually wearing nothing more than a simple tie-die T-shirt and a pair of shorts. You'd think that the sleeves of these clothes would hang limp, but they really don't. In actuality, they behave as if his missing body parts are there, only invisible.

Family Life:

(WARNING: SOME OF THIS STORY IS ONLY FINALIZED PENDING THE APPROVAL OF A MEMBER OF THE PCA COMMUNITY, since some of his characters are involved).

Nox was born of interesting circumstances. He is the son of Shyam Yalthulsoth, which is a mortal name that this ancient spirit took on in order to deal with mortals in recent decades. That is where Nox got his mortal surname. As for his mortal first name, it came from his mother, who was nothing more than a prostitute to his father, a tool for his eventual escape.
You see, Shyam, better known as the Dark Vail in ancient mortal times, was one of the more powerful, and evil, spirits of the ghost realm. A group of other ancient elder spirits, led by the same one that would later trick the Muma ghost family, banded their powers together in order to seal the Dark Vail within a special and extremely powerful eight pronged seal on the 9th level of the ghost realm. He was very mad when this happened, but try as he might, he could not escape this powerful imprisonment, and wreck havoc on both the ghost and mortal realms once more.
For 3500 long years, he pondered his methods of escape. He'd managed to open a few small "cracks" in his "prison", so he was not entirely cut off from the ghost and mortal realm. Through these cracks he was able to learn a few of the tricks of the ghost lord himself, Giratina, who sympathized with his predicament, but not enough to free him.
Eventually, he was able to use what little influence he had left, along with a vast horde of mortal wealth that he had accumulated in his reign of terror over the ancient mortal realm, in order to pay a female ghost to contribute part of her energy and combine it with part of his in order to conceive an offspring, and then the female would later raise the resulting offspring in the mortal realm.
The female's name was Charm Tultulzu, a Gengar, so the resulting offspring was a ghastly, nothing more than a head and torso, the limbs being invisible, like most of their species at the start of their lives.
She did commence to name this offspring Nox, for it was male, and raise it in the mortal realm.
This offspring was a big gambit for Shyam, because generating it exhausted all the energy he had remaining, with the prison draining the rest of it. If he wanted to make more cracks in the mortal realm, and eventually escape the seal, he would have to gather mortal SHADOW POKEMON in the mortal realm.
Four shadow mortals are required to open a crack for him to communicate in the mortal realm, and eight are required to break the seal and free him once more.
These shadow mortals must be overshadowed by him, and this is done by channeling a special form of mental exertion through his son, which is channeled into the victim shadow mortal through a bite to the head or neck and execution of a dream eater attack. This enslaves the victim's soul until either Dark Vail or his son willingly break the bond.
While their souls are enslaved, their amount of free will and control over themselves can be loosened or slackened by either Nox or Shyam. The owners of this enslavement can also induce physical and mental pain in the soul slaves, often in order to tighten their tongues while in a looser phase of free will, or just for the fun of it.
Once the necessary numbers have been assembled, these shadow mortals must shed blood in demonic rituals involving complex patterns on the floors and walls, in order to open cracks in the seal that binds the Dark Vail. (And by shed blood, I DON'T MEAN KILL THEMSELVES, only bleed a little in a ritualistic way, releasing some of the shadow energy from themselves in a material form.)
(my main inspiration for these rituals was an episode of the show A Haunting called The Possessed.)
The task of gathering the necessary shadow pokemon and enslaving their souls has been the task of Nox since the age of 6, when he was able to execute his first successful Dream Eater attack.
He is a highly skilled and very dangerous warrior, having gotten a lot of experience from underground junior fighting circuits around the world, in his hunt for shadow pokemon of all ages, since the adult matches often occur nearby the junior ones.
Shadow pokemon are very rare and hard to come by, since it often takes a lot of physical and emotional trauma to get an individual to sink to that level. He has failed on the first attempt almost all the time, and sometimes on the second attempt too. In fact, it took him five tries on the first victim to successfully enslave the soul of his prey, and this has frustrated his father to no end. It is because of this that is father considers reabsorbing not only the energy he invested to bing Nox into existence, but the energy Charm used as well, which would end Nox's existence (this method of absorption, often referred to as "eating" by the ghosts themselves, is one of the few ways for a ghost's existence to end).
Nonetheless, Nox still continues to try, and over 9 years he has enslaved 7 of the 8 shadow pokemon required to free his father, 4 of which are around his own age. His hunt for the 8th and final one has brought him to the Poke-Combat Academy. He had to enroll because the person he had been hunting had been removed from the underground fighting circuits 4 years prior to when he and Dark Vail became aware of the existence of the final one.
Unfortunately, two out of four of his prior attempts to enslave the 8th shadow pokemon on campus have been foiled before they even went underway, mostly due to clairvoyance of two of the three head staff members. He had to abort, because he could not risk revealing his true intentions to them. The other two were fouled because of the presence of the 8th's step-sister, who is a normal type, and thus unaffected by his ghostly illusionary techniques that he typically uses to lure other mortals away from his victims.
To this day, Nox has still not managed to gain control of the 8th's soul for his father, but luckily, THE 8TH AND ALL OTHER STUDENTS AND FACULTY ARE STILL COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF HIS EFFORTS TO CONTROL HER. As far as they are concerned, he's a creep with a discipline problem who enjoys playing pranks on others, and is trying to play one on the 8th as a personal triumph to his prankster princedom.
These failures have frustrated his father, but since they are so close, Dark Vail is considering a different tactic in order to finally gain control of the 8th shadow pokemon in the world and secure his freedom. What that tactic will be remains to be found out...
