Now that I've finally finished the work on my album "A Dawning Reality", I've gone strait into the work for my new album.
I told myself I was at least going to make a few attempts at harder styles of music. This is my first attempt at Dirty House. Let me know what you guys think. Constructive criticism is welcome, however, bear in mind that I am capable of biting. After all, I AM a coyote. ^^

Get too much of a solid drum in there though, and it cuts through the rest of what's going on a bit too much.
*Laughs.* Did I mention I bite? ^^ However, I did plan on beefing up, at the very least, the kick drum so that it at least has a little more presence. I just need to tune the compression a bit more. As for the snare and hi hats, I still haven't quite find the sound I want for those, so they'll most likely be sacked soon. ^^ Honestly, the whole track needs a good mastering polish. Right now, it's still a mess.
And, once again, my music refuses to fall into the genre I wish for it too... however, I do believe it may be closer to Electro House.

Dirty/Electro is the likes of Its Love (Trippin') (EPTN Mix) by Goldtrix. I just like to keep categories neat and organised so I'm a bit anal about it, but I digress.
When it comes to the compression, are you just bumping up the volume of the kick drum so it washes out the rest? Or are you using proper side chain compression? If its side chain, it just needs the attack level and ratios tweaked a bit. If its an overdriven kick through a compressor, drop it and use side chain :B

*Laughs* I deserve a "You're doing it wrong" sticker. Trust me though, I understand where you're coming from when it comes to categories and such, I'm just not as familiar with these new-fangled dance genres
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I'm probably using a side chain compressor, and you're absolutely right: when I normally master a kick, I take the attack to 0, get the ratio as low as I can without distortion, then tweak the "pogo" and "out" to give a little extra kick, and shorten the kick sound slightly so that the low bass noise fades out a bit faster, giving the track a more clean feel in my opinion
However, this track doesn't require that kind of a kick, and I already have the compressor set to do what I stated above. Force of habit.
