It’s half past eight. This is my watch. No special story, I got it at a pawnbroker. I like it. It came with a ladies' chain on it so I got this chain.

I thought I was the last person alive to use a pocket watch on a consitant basis! I can't stand digial watches. I bought myself a wind up one that you can see the machanics through the face! I should upload some picts, I have a small collection .

I had a pocket watch for a while but I switched back when it (like all my other time pieces) ceased to function. Now I just use my phone to check the time.

Not bad at all. I shall have to keep my eyes peeled if I'm ever in a pawnshop. Question is...I never am in one, I wouldn't even know where to find a pawnshop. I guess the yellow pages is a good place to start.

That's beautiful. And what an artsy photo of it really... the whole picture has a nice color scheme and the watch itself is in crisp focus. I like this a lot!

I have a couple of pocket watches but I only wear them with my overalls (read: bear drag) because they get too beaten up in my jeans or Dockers. I like the idea, though, of checking the time being a decision, not a habit.

Naw, it can't be more than fifty years old. Pocket watches before the middle of the century rarely had sweeping second hands, normally only surgeon's watches had second hands at all. Plus the "Alsta" logo looks pretty modern.

Alright, question that needs an answer. Why do pocket watches always seem to have the incorrect roman numeral for 4? IIII insead of IV? Is it just because of the symmetry? Because 8 has four characters as well?

Symmetry. If the four is represented by IIII then that makes four numbers with just Is, four numbers with Vs, and four numbers with Xs.
