I love the L1A1 (FN fAL) I miss mine. Better and easier to operate than the HK's that seem to be more popular. Love the pic. It has an old wartime correspondent look to it.

Yes, but not now. I miss it. Actually, mine was a reworked Austrian one from DSArms. After handling the HKG3 and others, I find that the FN was better, and more thought out with comfort of the user in action in mind. Other than the awesomely easy and cool field strip, I love the charging handle on the left (where it should be, so you don't take your finger off the trigger, and or mess up your sight picture as much). The Russians teach this simple concept even on right side charging handles, but the west doesn't. In practice I think that's a mistake.

I've never held a real firearm before, but handling my airsoft version is very nice as well:
My AK74U may be compact, reloading however is a bitch. Even with dual magazines taped to each other. Also changing fire mode is annoying.
The FAL on the other hand is very easy and quick to reload, even with dual magazines. And I can switch the fire selector with my thumb.

Soon I will have a rail on top of it with an Elcan scope on it, as well as a precision barrel installed! ^w^

Oh yah, I agree with you about the AK's fire salector being a bit anoying. But the gun is so good you have to over look that small anoyence. I use an Echo1 AK-47 and that gun is great for field play.

Ah well, I need a new fire selector: the one you can switch with your trigger finger. Because now I need to use my whole hand to switch it.

Yes. 600 round each. They came with the gun.
