Okay lets start better fur texture, anatomy has improved, dramatic background improved and matches a better pose. Style before is toony, style now is more anthro and a definite improvement.

It shows skill in rendering, anatomy, and general skill levels have definitely gone up.

Nothing to wqorry about here, your style has evolved a good thing

I like both versions. They are both unique but have similar qualities in them. It's almost like there are two different styles used rather than just improving on one.

newer one is technically loads better, but the old one is more aesthetically pleasing to me.

Huh, well while I think the before version holds up okay, I defintely preffer the current one, the greater detail and texture, softer shadows and more "realistic" (in the sense of being true to the source) porportions are all badass.
