So what should I do tomorrow?
I could stick with what I've been trained to do - stealing things - and see how much shapeshifting helps with that.
I could probably get work as a translator or a scribe, using Glot's gift.
If I changed into something big enough, I could probably even get work on the docks or something.
Or I could try something else.
So many possibilities!

Problem with that is if we steal something that while valuable, a thief has no business knowing about, we get to sport a six foot piercing of wood and steel. Like a spear.... though I do Like spears.... I wonder, since we are inconsistent with out own size and weight, couldn't you use us as a ring in a pinch and while hammer-fisting someone turn us into an anvil or spear?
Then again, blatantly exploiting physics like that might attract unsavory attention. We don't need UNNAMED sending squid men.
Also, as far as what I said earlier, there are two kinds of diseases to consider, one which isn't alive and just shreds stuff to make more of itself, and another which is a tiny living thing which leaches nutrients, usually its a problem because it produces toxins, which kill surrounding parts of the body 'ie necrosis'. Technically though, a disease is bad at its job if it kills the host, as that means the disease will soon die there as well.
Also, fun fact, most bugs have terribad immune systems, its why they meticulously clean, all the time. Its not terribly surprising that you saw them fall to plague as well.
Though really, diseases hitting with any kind of strength in a desert like yours in a vaguely subsistence society reeks of bull feces. I recommend if you find a way to cure anything major, you shut up about it, you will get 'disappeared' for it.

How about you work at the docks. Docks are generally for ships that bring in imported goods and valuables. You could pose as a laborer, but at the same time, use Glot's gift to listen in on important conversations that may reveal choice targets for burglary/thievery. No one pays attention to a laborer. Once you find a mark with valuables worth stealing, you could plan out your thievery from there.
Yes, nobody pays attention to laborers, right up to the question of loyalty, as they are likely to have low pay, and aren't likely to care for loosing the job. It's actually a rather bad position for stealing from the workplace I'd say. It'd be good for hearing about different things in other areas of the city however.
why not do something a bit out of left field here.
change into a bat, flying but still mammal, and pose as a bard. Use your new-found talent, after some practice, with frequencies above and below the normal hearing ranges, or just subliminal, to make people "want" to tip, a lot.
