Its Canada, no one legally has to have insurance

So if you're Canadian, why do you need your own health insurance; isn't that already taken care of by your government? Or is that some sort of American urban legend?

It covers basic stuff only -- never been sick enough to find uo how far it goes

Unless you really need some heavy duty insurance that you'd want offered by an employer, I'd stick to what you're doing (if you like where you are). I have a "real job" that I just been there long enough to get offered benefits and I rather not have benefits but be doing something more productive and relevant. Anywho, good luck with those emergency commissions.
