This is a little story I wrote to go with a painting that
did for me a couple months back. I honestly don't know what took me so long, but I got it done.
This is the first story I've actually ever posted, but I enjoy writing. It isn't a incredibly fascinating eye-gripping story to read, but I wanting to try dabbling in the arts of writing a fight scene in a story.
This has to do with two characters I have, one which I've never done anything with.
_______________________________________________________________________
I stand idly next to a stunning huge gem. It emits a strong bluish glow that could blind a person if they looked at it long enough. This gem, a diamond, is a magic one, and it’s practically the most valuable and important of all the crystals in the cavern in which I sit. Though this one is of the most importance, every single crystal here has a magical quality to it. I’m not surprised that I, Maximilian Wolfe, was sent here to guard it.
Before I left our peaceful Alaskan home, my fellow anthropomorphian clan members told me something about this cavern. More specifically, they told me about this diamond next to me. It holds a strong lunar essence within. Supposedly, the people who carved out this chamber were strong worshipers of the lunar deities. I can tell this was true, because my whole body tingles from just being in the crystal’s presence, and my crescent-shaped markings glow faintly. It’s like a rush of pure energy fills me.
What confuses me about this “special assignment” is why I would even need to guard this place. Originally, I had thought that out clan, and our clan alone, knew of this place. Hell, even if everybody knew about it, I only know one person who would even be able to harness the power locked in the crystal. That person is my alter ego, in a sense. Only he and I contain any sort of lunar essence, to my knowledge, anyways. I shrug to myself, thinking that despite how silly this assignment is, I’ll at least have the extra energy boost from the crystal.
I examine my surroundings. Before me is an entire chamber room, carved by the past in habitants. The walls are filled with tons of precious minerals. Lining the room are four pillars of magic-infused crystal; they are the only things lighting the room, aside from the lunar diamond. I can tell the inhabitants were bad carvers, because the pillars are rough and jagged, and there are random carvings all around the room. It must’ve been part of their culture. The flooring consists of large stone tiles, fit perfectly to fill the floor. I look up, examining the roof of the cave. Long stalactites protrude from it, illuminated by the pillars. I can’t help imagining those things falling from the roof like sharp, deadly icicles.
After a while, I begin to feel weary of this assignment. It’s supposed to be a weeklong stay, but it’s going to feel like a month at this rate. I stand, taking a moment to stretch my muscles, which now ache from sitting so long. There’s only me in this cave, so I can’t play a game with someone. The room has absolutely nothing in it, so I only have one option: train.
I pull out my sword, Reito No Tsuki, in its short sword form. It glistens in the light of the crystals, giving only a glimpse of its powers. I raise it up, close my eyes, and focus. A lining of white forms along the bladed edges of the sword. The light from the white brightens, seeming to gain more strength. I open my eyes, raise the sword above my head, and slash it downward in the direction of the room entrance. A huge wave of the white aura bursts off of the blade, hurtling towards the opening. When it hits the wall, it digs about 5 feet into it, sending chips of mineral flying before it vanishes. “Geez. That still needs some serious work before it’ll be ready,” I mutter, clenching my hand-paw into a fist.
I raise my sword and start charging an attack once more. When it’s just about to fire, I stop when a slight tap echoes from the tunnel leading out of the chamber room. The tap sounds again, and again, and several times more. What could be making such a racket? The taps continue, growing louder with each one. I quickly hide behind one of the pillars. There’s a special code to get in here, which only a few people, including me, know. There’s no doubt that I’m not alone, but I wonder who could possibly have come down here. I hope that it’s an animal, perhaps, that got in before I closed the entrance, but the footsteps are too loud and heavy to be that of a small animal, whose feet would make a mere patter from up close.
The footsteps grow closer and closer and I begin to fear it will be “him”. His powers are either equal to or even outclass mine. As the footsteps continue, getting closer and closer, they slow, having a larger interval between each. Then, just as I think they couldn’t be any closer to the doorway, they stop, leaving an almost eerie silence in their wake. I hear the sound of metal sliding out of its sheath, and a slight shuffle of movement. The footsteps begin again.
As the footsteps restart, a slender figure enters the room. It, a he, wears a long black cape that shrouds him from head to toe. There are shoulder pads attached to the outfit. All I can see of the figure is his exposed black-furred legs, his long black tail, and his two black ears that stick out from the hood. In his hand, he holds a long silver sword with a darker blade. The grip of it bares a black crescent moon marking that wraps around the figure’s hand. He holds it next to his side, not alerted in the slightest. I know just who this person is, and he walks right towards the crystal.
I step out from behind the crystal, sword held in front of me with one hand. “Stop,” I warn, stepping forward cautiously a few inches. “Don’t you take one more damned step towards that diamond.”
The figure stops, turning slowly to face me. His eyes gleam in the light of the crystal. The left is gold and the right is blue, just like mine. My assumption is proven right by this. This man, Vincent Bastion, stares back at me with cold, dark eyes, unblinking. He makes no movement towards me, nor does he say anything
“What are you doing here?” I bark angrily at him. He continues staring at me in silence, mocking my presence. “Did you think you could just waltz in here and take it?” I use my flash step- my fast travel- to place myself between Vincent and the crystal. I raise my sword higher, ready to strike at any moment.
Vincent closes his eyes, inhales a deep breath, and releases one of the most horrible laughs I’ve ever heard. It’s full of hatred, malice, and mockery. “So they sent you to protect the crystal, hmm? A wise decision, aside from the fact that you forgot to lock the door behind you. After all, we are brothers, in a sense. You know more about me than anyone,” says Vincent with a devilish grin. “The only issue with that is, well, I know just as much about you as you do about me, which makes us equally matched. How do you intend to protect this crystal with those odds? That’s right. You won’t. That crystal is my gateway to power, and we both know just what can be done with it. We’re connected, you know. We could both use this to fulfill our desires, but the difference between us is that you’re tied down by your foolish sense of ‘honor’ and ‘morality’. That’s why I have come. I will get what I’ve longed for, along with ripping away everything that is precious to you. If you give me the crystal without a fight, then no one will have to get hu-”
I cut him off, an angry tone to my voice. “How dare you. How dare you come in here and threatening me, talking about how you’re so much better than me. All you so called “villains monologue about how things are, but there’s no point to it. You never do learn.” I start walking towards Vincent. “People like you are nothing but trash, arrogant cowards who prey on people who are weaker than themselves. My morals are what keep me binded to reality. You’re not the person I once knew long ago, and I have no sorrow in killing you.”
The tip of my sword illuminates with bright aura. I feel nothing but loathe for the man before me, who was once a friend. He stands by his words, blind to the opinions of others. With these feelings, power generates on my sword with an astounding rate, turning to its second stage, which is colored blue. Vincent does the same as well, with his sword surrounded bright red aura. I lung at him, clashing my sword with his. It sends a bleeding ripple of aura all throughout the room, shaking it violently. Never has my anger caused me to generate that much energy so early in a battle.
I clash several more times with Vincent, sending more and more streaks of aura through the chamber until it’s filled with a fusion of red and blue. He was right when he said our powers were equal, because I struggle to even make my sword meet his, let alone get anywhere close a successful hit. Still, I continue the same fast movement hack and slash, which Vincent keeps up with. Anything violent could destroy the chamber, leaving not only a mess, but leeway to escape with the gem.
Vincent’s attacks grow stronger with each hit, feeding off of his own aura that generates as he fights. His eyes are filled with nothing but intent. I must not let him have the gem. His devil of a grin grows wider as he pulls what looks to be a gun with a silver moon carving from a hidden holster of his belt. He puts it below his sword, quickly. I’m at his mercy, because if I let up, he’ll hit me, and I have to block the gun’s fire. He pulls the trigger, and a black beam shoots from it. I put my sword up to block it and Vincent’s sword, but my reaction speed isn’t quite enough, and it sends me flying back into the wall. The impact knocks the wind out of me, and a few stalactites fall from the roof and break. The enchanted minerals that were inside fly in every direction, sparkling in the light.
I stand up, huffing. A deep ache fills my back, and I look behind me to see that the impact dented the wall. Vincent stands in front of me, a mere 20 feet away, glaring at me. He puts his sword above him, and slashes it down. A black wave of energy flies towards me, spitting black fire from it. I counter it with a similar attack, except the wave it made of white light. The two waves cancel each other out, pushing the both of us back. I was no time, lunge at Vincent, and hit him dead on with three of the white waves of light. It has a similar effect as to win I was hit with his gun, but the waves push him into the wall. “It’s over for you, Vincent. There’s no way I’d let you have this gem,” I warn him.
Vincent ignores my warnings, and spins his sword in a circle; odd. It slices up the waves I sent at him, causing bits to fly in every direction and flicker out on the ground. I quickly run back up to the crystal and place my hand on it. A whole wave of power runs through me, and Vincent seems to notice it. He fires rounds from his hand, but I block each one with ease, sending them back to him. He dodges, making his way closer and closer to the crystal. He knows he can’t beat me as long as I have extra strength, yet he still comes; that’s when I feel a long cold blade plunge through my shoulder. He put me under his illusion. A voice from behind taunts, “You let your guard down, Max.”
I grab onto the edge of his sword, and actually pull it in deeper. “As did you,” I reply. A small light travels from my fingers onto the sword, and then up to his fingers. He quickly releases the sword as if it were covered in acid.
“Ah!” Vincent shrieks. “That was a damned dirty trick.”
I smirk at him, pull the sword out, and kick him into the wall with lightning speed, ironically with a coating of electric element surrounding my foot. He stand up and flash steps back to me. I switch my sword into my good hand and throw an electric blast at him with my other hand, ignoring the sharp pain in my shoulder. He dodges, taking a swing at me, which I dodge. I can tell he’s being more serious at this point, because his eyes glow an extremely dark purple. In return, my eyes start to glow a very light blue.
Vincent fires a powerful blast of dark energy at me. I counter with an equally powerful blast of light energy. We continue a back and forth of powerful attacks that get stronger with each, until I realize that all this fighting is damaging the chamber; I decide to rid myself of Vincent, at least by sending him elsewhere. He takes another swing at me. I duck under it and grab his free arm, and flip him. Before he can stand up, I fire dart-shaped bolts of light around him in a circle. “I’m sorry, Vincent, but I can’t let you have the crystal, not with all that corruption you carry.”
I don’t allow Vincent a chance to speak; I know that he would say something to dishearten me. The light aura coming from the darts swirl around Vincent. I cut a line in the circle with my sword, and the aura envelopes him quickly before teleporting him somewhere far away. The teleportation is quick.
I press my sword into the soil between the tiles on the floor, and sink down with my hands rested on top of it. I sigh, annoyed with the situation. “Man…. I was saving that particular teleportation technique for someone else. Curse these one-time uses spells!” I look over at the crystal. “At least I fixed it before things started to get really out of hand, especially with how powerful that guy really is.” The crystal seems to glow more brightly as I put my hand up to my shoulder wound. No blood comes off on my hand, to my surprise, and the pain dulls down. Whatever that crystal is, it seems to have healing properties.
The cave rumbles a little, and the walls seem to repair themselves, magically. After that, the crystal ceases to glow brightly; that’s when I take the time to stand up, my wound already halfway healed. “I suppose it’s time to go then. The crystal gained power from the aura of that fight, and now it should be able to renew the seal over this cave,” I think to myself. It’s at least what the clan told me when they sent me to this cave. It turns out that they were right, because when I reach the outside of the cave, a thick but clear barrier surrounds the cave. I’m able to step out, but can’t go back in once I do.
“Time to go home, I suppose, “ I say cheerfully, walking down the path back to my woodland clan home.
The End.
