After a few moments of indecision, Jace walked over to the trapped animal, fairly sure that it was more scared of him then he was of it. As he approached, its struggle to escape became more pronounced and its whimpering more desperate. Setting his shoulder against the fallen tree, Jace pushed as hard as he could, trying to shift the tree up an incline of the ground. The tree moved grudgingly, but after some effort Jace was able to move it enough for the creature to finally pull itself free.

Jace collapsed against the fallen tree, panting as he tried to catch his breath. A few moments later, Jace heard a soft sniffing sound and turned to find the creature craning its neck towards him from the other side of the fallen tree. Upon receiving Jace’s attention, the creature gave a small start and darted away. Somewhat relieved, Jace picked himself up off the ground and started home.
