EDIT: AARRGH okay all the spelling errors and shit are fixed, you can all stop bitching about it sheeeesh
Okay, due to popular demand, the FA Artist Schematic has been updated.
For comparison, the first version is here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1960883/
Version 2 is here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5633450/
Now here's version 3, based vaguely on the cartoonists' pyramid in Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics. I don't know if this thing is becoming more or less accurate the more I work on it, because a lot of square pegs end up getting shoved into round holes. Well. Anyway. I meant to premiere this at our table at FC but we totally forgot to put out the chart on our table. Well, it was a moot point anyway, because we ended up not having room for it. Maybe next year. In any event, enjoy.
Please don't take this too seriously; it's just for a lark. I'm no trained art theorist or nothing, these are just my own subjective, uninformed opinions, based mostly on the general vibe that I get from these artists' works. I'm sure that I've misidentified a lot of you, so feel free to hash it out in comments or make your own or whatnot. I certainly won't be offended if other people have other takes on this.
Also, please don't think that this is any sort of value judgement on the quality of your art. People seem to think that getting classified as lowbrow or naive or outsider is some sort of insult. It's not. It's just a useful way to classify styles.
FAQ
1) WHAT DO THESE SCHOOLS MEAAAAAN?
Explanations for the different artistic disciplines is on the chart above.
2) YOU PUT ME IN THE WRONG PLACEEEE
I probably did. Feel free to leave comments explaining where you should be and I'll try to find a more accuarte place for you next update.
3) YOU FORGOT TO ADD A CERTAIN ARTISTIC MOVEMENT
I'm only one man and I didn't have the time and patience to get that far indepth. This is just a really simple, basic breakdown of some of the more common styles I've noticed,
4) I'M NOT ON THERE, WHY NOT?
I either forgot or I'm not familiar with your work.
5) WHERE WOULD I BE?
You would know better than me. Tell me where you think you should be.
6) REMOVE ME FROM THIS NOOOOOW BECAUSE I AM A BABY WHO HATES TIME-WASTING AMUSEMENTS
Fine.

[belated, much so]
I'm rather surprised to be listed in three different categories (Naive, New Objectivity, Oriental).
I definitely can't argue with any of those -- I'm all about rationality in art,
except when I'm trying to be fantastical and outlandish -- but even that runs according to some odd form of logic.
mostly, I consider body forms and such, and try to represent them as best I can.
sometimes I construct them according to whatever proportions seem pleasing;
other times. I just let the pen do as it will; jack natural proportions for artistic fun!
the funny thing is that I have a degree in studio art and graphic/web design.
I guess my scribbly inner child sometimes trumps my training? :)

Nice! Though, I noticed a few errors here and there...
"Drake Fenwick" not "Draken" (in primitivism), "Dark Aldebaran" not "Alderon" (in Decadence), you listed Maikeru twice in Orientalism, and Kacey Maltzman is now Kacey Miyagami (in Romanticism).
Also, you misspelled classification in the disclaimer, but I'm not sure if that was intentional or not.

Being the head of Futurism makes me feel like if I were the leader of a global organisation!
Now seriously, I was wondering why I was in "futurism" rather than, let's say, "pop" or "orientalism", until I read "saturated colours and clean lines". Holy crap, you nailed my two obsessions on artwork.
And by the way, which categories would folks such as Drjavi, Javanshir, Rasp777 and Tehsean belong to?

haha... perhaps so? Misunderstanding Comics (a project that agouti-rex and a colleague are making)
is a parody of McCloud's seminal work in the study of sequential art.
also, your art is just really fun to admire. I might not fave all of it, but I enjoy seeing it in my inbox. :3

Oh jeez, more than a little flattered I made it on here! I'm blushing.
A few minor things (boy howdy, you can sure count on the community to "helpfully" proofread these for you, eh?):
- In Fantasticism, "joefutonmania" should probably be "joe" and "futonmania". "zausch" should be "zaush".
- In Minimalism, you have "guy fry" where I think you may mean "guyfuy".
- Katmomma (in Magical Realism) is now posting as Sheppymomma.
- If you actually do go back and futz with this, might I humbly suggest you add
odendo? I think I'd best describe him as Biedermeyer but lordy, I don't really know.
- A few names seem to pop up multiple times, which may or may not be intentional - Daef in Primitivism and Fantasticism, Haystack in New Objectivity, Orientalism, and Naive. Probably others!
I'm digging the new layout, it's purdy and definitely easier to read. I super-appreciate you doing these things, I love seeing more cerebral analyses of what goes on in the furry fandom. I'll have to pore over this and find new people to watch!

I was a bit surprised to be listed under three different categories, but then I thought on it a bit.
Naive: I have a degree in studio art and graphic design... and yet sometimes I reject all that education to do something visceral, from the heart and guts, without regard for aesthetics of any sort.
New Objectivity: my main more of artwork. I tend to be very rational about how I proceed in drawing body forms and expressing transformation sequences.
Orientalism: I am not sure I fit this in the best way, but I do tend towards Japanese themes with my own character, though I'm not as overt about it as some other folk.

I'm honored to be on here, so I am going to favorite this right away. <3 Hey, and it doesn't offend me at all... I'm not an idiot who seeks drama like I was a few years ago. XD
I'm just really happy that my artstyle has a title to it... it definitely makes me have some more awareness about my own art.

Whoa I'm actually on this cool thing?!?! ( /w\) RAD!
I never thought of myself as Graffiti but I actually like that~ Probably at first glance I would categorize myself as Surrealism or 'Kawaisa" (cuz who doesn't wanna be kawaii) but I'm just flattered to even be on here, omg. ( /w\)

I don't know what to classify my artwork as. First, most of the artwork comes from other people. But my furry alter ego would be inspired by Orientalism- more precisely, "Africanism". I purposely incorporated tropes usually associated with African Americans in designing my fursona but I am worried that such actions maybe racist
Huh! For a while I thought some of the categories were jumbled, then I saw you were applying a different literal meaning to how Scott McCloud used the triangle--he generally aimed for what literally comes across on the page, but you're leaning toward intentions behind work instead, which is how art schools tend to be divided.
Scot McCloud also had a table for charting artistic intentions, but it's a square instead of a triangle (corners are Classicist, Animist, Formalist and Iconoclast) and it's more supposed to be charting storytelling styles, but it has a large artistic bent to it as well.

This is really brilliant. I genuinely found a bunch of new artists to follow because of this chart. It's wonderfully done as well. Major props to you for putting so much work into it all.
I can't imagine how I'd classify myself, not something I really think about. Might ponder this a bit now.

Two questions:
First, anybody care to place me on here somewhere...??? I honestly don't think I fit in any of these...
Second, this would probably be quite a bit of work but it would be awesome to have the artists alphabetized within their genre, so we can more easily look up artists.
Oh, and by the way, this is pretty effing awesome!

would you say I'm still in the same category from chart 2? just out of curiosity :3

and yet I see the nugget of something that could be awesome in your work. please do try... observe other artists... think about your own art... study anatomy and such...
and perhaps you'll be much better than mediocre.
most of all.. you should NOT compare your work to that of other artists.
cherish their work, learn from it, but do not beat yourself down in thinking "I could never be that good".

I saw the word "Furry Artist Categorization" and assumed it'd be something that'd piss me off, but my love of gigantic charts had me click the thumbnail anyway...and I was actually genuinely surprised and interested. Slightly sad to see I'm not up there, but it ain't really a big surprise. If you wouldn't mind adding me to the chart at some point, I'd like to see what it is I fall under.
Nothing to apologize for, fun actually, to use serious terminology and all. My thought was simply an alternate catagorization based on in-genra styles (anime, disney, etc.) though I don't have a clue how to describe half the stuff (jaggy A computer, jaggy B computer, Pokemon derivetive school 1, etc...)
Oh, I gotcha! That would be a more accurate way to organize things, since I think those genre styles are more in keeping with what most of these artists do: Morefolks around here are inspired by Disney or anime or something like that than the old timey "classic" schools. Though I wouldn't really know what most of those styles would be called, either.
I always wonder how my art is perceived and defined so this is infinitely interesting to me!
I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to art; no professional training, no education, everything is just intuitive/subconscious? So I have some new terms to read up on and maybe a clue now. ;P Thanks for the inclusion, this is a nifty chart!

Superrr curious to see where I'd go, but at the same time I personally can't decide that for myself.
I feel like I'm constantly experimenting with a lot of things and haven't exactly grasped a technique which is definitive, if that makes sensee.
Right now I feel like I'd be able to go in a number of categories with how much I mess with my process haha

I think you have mispersuasion about social realism.
Maybe not social, but socialist realism. (Google it and look on pictures of soviet art school ^^).
It's not about ugly reality in generally.
It's about best ideals of humans and society in reality.
Much sun, open spaces, healthy sexy bodies, happy faces ~.^

This is amazing work man. You've really put a lot of time and effort into building this pyramid and the descriptive categories. Very impressive.
Though I am curious as to which category I might fit in? I realize I won't have a lot of things in that gallery, but I do have an alternate account if it will help. Likewise I have a few friends you might consider looking through, that is if you're interested?

I think you may be confusing my work with that of my alter-ego. Pushy definitely belongs in "decadence", at least in subject matter. But if you're gonna put this on the McCloud triangle, I'm pretty sure I belong further up and to the right!
(she says, with an experiment in more realistic shading as the latest thing she's drawn.)

I uhh... whut... I think I'd fit in either art deco or magical realism... I try and go for realism in my work but I'm not that good at it yet... my goal is to be like get something similar to rukis one of these days. so I guess I fit into art deco for the time being. I guess poke me into that catagory pretty please?
also all in all this is a pretty awesome idea and a lot went into this. very nice for finding artists of similar style ^-^

Where would this guy fit? http://www.furaffinity.net/user/baroncoon/
I'm actually super flattered to have found myself on there, wah XD
I'll have to read through all the categories to be sure but I think the one I'm in is pretty close to home! I do wonder how long it's been since I was added since this was originally posted 6 years ago, and I think I've developed my work substantially within the past 3 or so.
I should read up more on these; might even learn something about my own work this way. Thank you!
PS: I should also note that I'm equal parts thrilled and concerned that I'm in the category with the creepy Cthulhuian horror as an example piece. XD

I dare anybody to be later than I am to this party. This is so cool and just… Well now that I’m discovering it almost a full decade later such a time capsule. I went through such waves of nostalgia reading some of these artists names. Such a wonderful chart that you had spent all this time and effort constructing. It’s really cool to see it all this time later and I’m honored that I made it onto the list. Like honestly all your effort this is such a neat piece.
Wow though I can’t believe this is my first time catching it. ❤️ Certified badassery.
