So this is my mama fish. I've finally gotten her to hold still for a photograph.
Yes, she is missing an eye on that side. She was injured when I got her, and ended up losing her eye, but is doing completely fine now. Her injury is healed up and it really isn't bothering her to be missing it. She's still just as greedy about food as any other guppy. XD

Blue is currently in her 1 gallon holding tank so she won't get pregnant again. To many babies already. XD
Note- Yes, I DO have pond snails, however - they keep my tank clean, so I'm not really worried about them. I have an assassin snail that helps to keep them in check, and I'm getting another assassin snail or two to do the job a bit better.

I know this. These tend to grow pretty fast, and some are already just about as big as the adult males. There's a store that will give me store credits for them, which I can put back into buying food and other general upkeep items for my tank. I'm not really in it for the money, more for the chance to see what kind of unique coloration come out of the breeding. The first batch should be starting to show color soon. :)
That's good :) I'm glad you are attempting to be a responsible owner. General dislike of people who buy them after knowing what they can do and complain, whine and bitch when we inform them we cannot take the babies back for store credit. Honestly they were just used as feeders usually because the colors get more muted out as the generations go on.
Now what do you use in the bottom of the tank? Because it doesn't look like regular aquarium gravel, and that's what I'm using now, and I've wanted to get something else that would work better for the plants I have in it. Especially with me moving and setting everything up in a new 30 gallon tank.
I use aquarium grade sand with Flourite underneath. Plants take to it VERY well. The sand makes it easy for smaller plants to spread out if you use it in a thin (1/2 inch) layer. Mine's a bit to thick, and my grass is having trouble rooting. I also use a home made CO2 generator and Seachem Flourish Plant Supplements to keep them nice and green. :)
You never really have to siphon the tank bottom with sand, all you really have to do is reach and stir it up a bit. The filter will take care of the rest. If you never want to have to do that, get a few cory catfish, they'll do it for ya.
It also depends on where you buy flourite. Petsmart has 15 lb bags of it for like $20.

I'll have to look at the Petsmart near where I'm moving to. Because last I checked the one near me now only had the cartons of it for like $15 and it was only 7 pounds or so.
But yeah I guess that's true and I already have two catfish in it and don't feed the fish all that often as it is. Along with the filter in it is for a 50 gallon tank. So it sucks up more than I need.

I did when I first started up my five gallon. I ended up getting a water wisteria from a bad seller, and it had carried in a few pond snails on it.. which.. soon overran my tank. The assassins really help keep their population down. When I switched up to a 20 gallon, I found out that I'd need more assassins to keep them in check..
