Actually luck has little to do with being selected. The Ball Captain picks who is crowned at his annual ball. It is usually based on who has been a positive influence on the organization and community. Didnt do anything special, just what I thought was right and fair. It was fun, but I dont wanna do it again

Sorry, In a Krewe, there are the usual club officers plus a Ball Captain. At election time the candidates make a presentation of their ideas for a ball subject. The membership votes for who they like. The Ball Captain, may select several lieutenants to help him if he wants. His sole job is to put together the ball. Arrange for the venue, lighting, sound, approve costume proposals, and appoint the next years royalty.(crowned the his ball(we just finished out ball last night, so elections for this year will be in a month) The new captain will have 1 year to get it all together. (the whole membership helps)The ball is usually in late Jan or early Feb. held 2 weeks before mardi gras in New Orleans. The new royalty (for this year was revealed last night) so its a surprise for everyone but the Ball Captain and those selected. Sorry to be so long winded, its realy simple when you have been through a couple of balls, but very confusing to those not familliar with the tradition.
