Chapter 2 - The energy problem.
Chapter two is finally up, once again, I would love any and all feedback so I can make this story better and better. I hope y'all enjoy.
========================================================
I stopped falling. No I didn’t land, I just stopped. Then again where would I land? I’m in the middle of space. As I gazed around I noticed everything around me. And it was beautiful. Thousands of stars far far away in every direction, nothing but beauty and bliss in every direction. I turned, and there I saw something even more beautiful. Earth, completely there, and no longer a black hole. The dimensional jump worked! But why am I in space? Could it be because I made the jump on the spaceship instead of on the Earth itself? I knew I had to get there, but how was I supposed to move? I tried moving my arms and legs, then my wings and tail. I tried everything but couldn’t move.
I was trapped in space!
I decided while stuck I might as well read some of the records given to me by the furries, in order to see if there is some kind of propelling system I have for space travel. No dice. Now THAT would have been a good design flaw to be informed about. I didn’t have any matter to warp either, meaning I was completely trapped.
I thought for sure I would have to stay there for all eternity. But then what seemed like a miracle, at the time, happened. A spaceship passing by detected me, and used a tractor beam on me, pulling me in.
Once inside some of the crew came at me, and I noticed that they were furries too, but they were huge! They were anywhere from 6 to 10 feet tall, and I was a measly 2 and a half. When they saw me they noticed it too.
“This is the thing found by our sensors?” one of them said, “A child? How is it still alive?”
“I’m not a child!” said I.
“It can talk!” said another guard, “Let’s take it to the commander.”
They took me to the bridge where I saw their commander, a yellow lion about 7 feet tall, with a red mane, and boy did he look ticked.
“This is the child I’ve been told about?” said he, “Its not a child its an android. Take him to the lab!”
“Wow hang on there chief, I want answers, where am I, why am I going to this lab?”
“Ah so you do speak our language. Very well, I am commander Lex of the starship Traveler, and this ship is returning to it’s homeworld of Earth.”
Earth! Oh just to hear the name made my face beam with joy.
“As for your other question, you are going to the lab so we can figure out who made you, us, or The Worn.”
“The Worn? I’ve never heard of them.”
“That doesn’t mean you were not built by them, you could be holding a virus to spread to the furrs of Earth and not even know it. I promise you will come out ok if you cooperate.”
“Fine then lead me there.”
We arrived at the lab, and a grey rat came up to me, he had a slight german accent, that made me wonder. Was there a point in this planet’s history where there were different languages?
“Hello my name is Franz, and I will be taking a look at you.” He said. “Just hop on up to this table here.”
I quickly flew up and landed on the table he was gesturing to.
“Alright, here we go.”
All of a sudden, several lights flashed over me, scanners he called them, it felt like being on the other end of a laser light show.
“Well I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that you weren’t built by The Worn, in fact you were made by our us by the look of it, the bad news is, you are running very low on power.”
“What do you mean low on power? The guys who made me said I would never run out of power.”
“It would have been that way, if not for the tractor beam. You see, our tractor beam works through magnetism, meaning it makes certain metals in the target magnetic, and then pulls them in. Your body, according to the scans, is made primarily of the metal rue. Rue is a non magnetic metal, and is generally indestructible. However there is a small amount of iron in your power generator, which is how the tractor beam was able to draw you in. That iron has warped due to the beam, and now you are generating only about 50% of your maximum power.”
“50%?! But according to the records of my creators that means I can’t perform alchemy!”
“So you do need that other 50% then. Hmmm. Well according to the scans your ‘makers’ made you with some spare room in your body. I could give you a chemical energy powered generator. Basically it would be just like eating if you weren’t an android.”
“Well I guess that could work.”
“Mhm, I can have it fully installed by the time we reach Earth. However there is a TON of technology on you that we don’t understand. Our species can make robots, but you are some kind of android, you have a spirit as if you were a furry before being put in the robot. You are a living creature that can somehow control the robot from the inside, I can’t even point out from where you are controlling it from except that its from inside. This means I cannot tell how you control yourself, therefore I cannot give you control over this new add on.”
“Meaning?”
“This means while you will eat as if you were alive, and need to in order to do your ‘alchemy’ thing, you will be incontinent.”
“What? How am I supposed to go around protecting furries if I can’t even control going to the bathroom?”
“Well you ARE the size of a cub on Earth so you could wear diapers.”
My heart sank. What was I supposed to do, accept and be in diapers forever? Or deny and be unable to defeat the destroyer. I had only one option. Begrudgingly I accepted. He layed me down on the table, and told me just to relax. As I did he began installing the device. I just laid there waiting for him to finish, he stopped for a moment when a nurse came in, a female tiger with a shark-tooth necklace. I wondered if she got that by beating up her ex-boyfriend. The Franz talked to her for a minute, she looked at me, nodded her head, and left, Franz then went back to work.
“She is going and getting something I need, don’t worry you're almost done.” Franz said, as I waited for him to finish. “I’m also giving it a feature that will stimulate your sensors so you will feel hungry when it’s empty. That way you’ll know when it needs to be refilled.”
“Thanks.”
“No problem, I do worry somewhat about you though.”
“Oh, why?”
“You are the size of a baby, you wear diapers, and you’ll need to eat on a regular basis. Not to mention you have no money, no family, and no job. Unless you find a job, you won’t be able to buy food to eat and diapers to wear. However the chances of you getting a job are slim to none, most everyone will see you as a baby and not even pay attention to you. You may be able to put this encounter to your advantage though, after this go and talk to commander Lex, he might give you a job, or in the very least help you get a family.”
“A family?”
“Mhm, people on Earth adopt robots like you all the time, they treat them just like their own flesh and blood. They adopt robots of all ‘ages’, it wouldn’t be too hard to find one that would adopt you as their baby.”
“Swell” said I, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Don’t worry, there are laws, they can’t mistreat you, but they do get to decide stuff normal parents do. You know, bedtime, food, gender, etc. However the robots that are adopted are programmed to act that certain way, so you’ll have to act like a normal cub-bot.”
“I guess I can sneak out when need be in order to protect furrs. To be quite honest I don’t even know what I should be doing.”
“There you go, just don’t do anything stupid.”
It was true come to think of it. I didn’t know what to do. How am I supposed to stop something that consumes universes? It seems so big, and even at full power I seem powerless.
“Alright you're done.” said Franz, “Ah Tina your back.”
The tiger had come back just as he finished. Suddenly as the machine booted up, I felt famished.
“Indeed,” said she, “I brought the things you requested.”
She handed Franz a plain white disposable diaper, and a bottle of baby formula.
“Ahh thank you Tina, that will be all.” as he said that she left. “Alright then, lets get this thing on you, and get you some food.”
He then opened the diaper and placed it under my legs, powdered me, and taped it up. Then he proceeded to give me the bottle and told me to drink.
“It’s what your family will probably give you, so you should get used to it while you can.”
I was hungry thanks to the device, and drank the whole thing down before I knew what happened.
“There you go,” said Franz, “Now then head on over to the deck, and talk to the commander. He will want to know the details.”
I left for the deck, as told by Franz where it was, and on arrival I saw Lex.
“What happened to you?” Said Lex.
“Its a long story.” As I told him the details he seemed to understand.
“Oh, geez I’m sorry for using the tractor beam on you, well we are almost to Earth, once there I’ll help you find a family, if one can’t be found, then I’ll give you a job on my starship. We aren’t at Earth yet because we stopped to wait for a report on weather you were made by the Worn or not.”
“Ah. Thanks.”
And with that I went over to the main window and just watched as we began picking up speed again on the way back to Earth.
