Oh wow, someone else who grew up with the Fox release! We never owned it, but our elementary school library had it available for borrowing, and we would rent it, so to speak, all the dang time, and watch it over and over and over. Something about it kept bringing me back, and stirring up a strong emotional response just about every time.
I loved the Brave Little Toaster and Little Nemo as a kid! But BLT is... rather disturbing, watching it again when I was older. D: I'm surprised I watched it so much as a kid. i would ALWAYS freak out in the junkyard scene, especially when the crane showed up. Ack. Eep. NO NOT THAT WAY ARRRRRGH. x3
Little Nemo was the fucking shiz when I was little. :o

Wait wait, WHAT?! I know Miyazaki and Steven Spielberg at least were originally involved with Little Nemo, but ray Bradbury? Whaaaaaat? Also, I feel embarrassed to admit i don't know who Moebius is. :x Wow. PIXAR's guys made BLT? That... wow. How heavy that movie got, and how much character some of the, well, characters had makes a loooooot more sense now. :o And. Thinking about it with that in mind, BLT seems almost like a prototype for Toy Story. O_O
IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW. Lotso is totally a combination of the Air Conditioner, the lamp from the creepy "fix-it" guy;'s workplace, and some of the fancy electric gizmos from the apartment. :o
Yeah, I have seen the clip Miyazaki directed and produced, though, that never made it into the movie. It has a female character flying a plane and doing all sorts of tricks alongside Nemo on his bed. Preeeeeeeetty classic Miyazaki, that. XD
I need to look that fellow up! :o

I didn't see the entire film in Japanese until 1999, but it's one of my favorites. Unique, and definitely in a good way! I introduced my Japanese professor to it the following year and she started showing it to all of her classes thereafter.
Very cute painting! You really did them all justice. :)

I'm not too familiar with the Fox release of Totoro (I did see parts of it at one point), though the Disney releases of Ghibli films are great. Disney was contractually bound not to cut even a single frame out of any of the movies covered under their licensing agreement, so major changes to the stories or characters were not really possible. Considering some of the awful hatchet jobs on various series and films that came out in the 90s (and earlier), Ghibli was very concerned about the artistic integrity of their films - and of course their ability to make money in the English market should Disney (or any other studio) have decided to "improve" them by heavily editing before release. *shudder*
In short, from what I've seen of them, the Disney dubs are quite good!

Yeah, I hate it when they cut or edit parts of ANYTHING from any other country (I don't mind Woolseyism as long as it's done right, though).
The only real complaint I have would be when Japanese names get changed to American ones, because it just seems odd when it takes place in Japan.
By the way, Howl's Moving Castle was really different from the original book, and I got so confused.
