The Chosen Champions of the Goddesses

So! We have our three Goddess chosen champions right here!
Link
We kinda byzantined him up a little bit. Because the Oocca culture seems to have aesthetics based on that from what little we could see of it :I
Personality-wise, Link has always been a pretty neutral character. I mean, he’s a blank slate, really, and the player was always allowed to project what ever personality they wanted onto him. I sorta wanted to keep that. We injected a little bit of optimism into him—but not too much ‘wide-eyed wonder’ since we didn’t want him looking like he was born yesterday. Wind Waker Link has a nice bit of determined optimism to him that I wanted to take a little from hhh <3
Anyways, it’s nerve wracking trying to redesign a character I’ve loved as is for years and years and years :I and I’m not a very good character designer haha. Even if the design is subtle in its altered elements. I don’t think I could ever be 100% happy with my interpretation. (if it’s not broken, etc)
Zelda
I don’t have much to say about her design. I literally just searched up a bunch of “medieval” dresses and took what I liked from that. And then I applied Zelda’s standard colors.
Actually, with her face shape, I did want a kind of strange narrowness to it all, with a somewhat Tilda Swinton stare. The result ended up being pretty Galadriel-esque, which wasn’t wholly intended, but kinda makes sense for the sort of personality I want to communicate with this particular version of our Hylian Princess.
Ganondorf
His design was largely Badjoojoo’s doing. Technically, in our little re-imagining of their origins, Ganandorf doesn’t obtain his boarish form until after the very first “great cataclysm” event which takes place during OoT. So there is no Ganon in this story/game/exercise. But as a nod to the eventual, we alluded to the beast via the design on his breast plate.
He’s younger here, and is indeed the age he looks—having not gained his immortality just yet. He’s unaware of the fate served to him by the Hylian favoring goddesses, and so while his iconic roguishness is well in tact, there’s also a kind of boyish brashness that is yet to be worn away by time.
