Valeria Light © to me
Notes:
This image partly demonstrates the reason why you rarely see her wings. The exact reason is that they get in the way of Arnis and Espada y Daga, particularly some starting positions in the kata. (In which she would puncture her wing by putting her sword in her armpit, or slice them by swinging it around behind her or close to her arms.) Bandaging them around and into her arm and hands is painful, but it makes sense from a functional design standpoint.
As of late, I've since removed the facial and thigh tattoo, mainly because of aesthetics. The splash of yellow on the thigh was a bit off, and the facial tattoo took up half her face and made it a little busier than I would have liked.
She is not any real species of bat. She is based off of a mix of acerodon jubatus and pteropus vampyrus, but has a couple of distinctions (including the fact that her color is just base cool brown) that sets her apart.
Storyline and background is still something I'm bad at and have been mulling over since early 2006 (It's her 7th birthday as an original character in about a couple of months) when I first drew her. The things I've settled upon however are the following:
1) She is an exile and a renegade templar/paladin, and has a bounty on her head which gives reason for adventurers and knights to hunt her. (A reason for her namesake. "Knightslayer".)
2) Ambidextrous by the nature of the fighting style I've given her, which normally involves two short blades or a medium blade and a parrying dagger, but can be adapted to any type of blade on hand. (One of the tricks an Arnis instructor with a sense of humour will show you is how to kill someone with a pen. In self defence, of course.)
3) Determined, militant, socially inhibited, merciful.
4) No magical aptitude to speak of, but instead she has training similar to the Templars of Dragon Age. By will and extreme physical conditioning alone, she resists and counters the effects of magic. (This somewhat retcons an image I've done sometime before, but so be it.)
Other than that, I am a poor writer, and prefer to tell her stories by single images.
Weapon of the image is a bastard sword.
