This is basically a color sketch of Ultraviolet's holy dragon character, Azriel. I've been trying to do a number of sketches of Azriel for a couple of years now. I love the character - the gentle, soft curves of his face, the subtle, subdued color scheme that allows those blue eyes (and other features) to stand out so well.

I'm trying to get back into coloring pictures like this with my pencils again because it really is different from the coloring I do for work. It's much less directed and dictated by a pattern or texture that I have to work with so I have to get my mind into working with color a slightly different way. I've been limiting my palette on this one, a trick I've picked up at work from a dwindling supply of colors there but I like the effect so far.

In this image, I figure Azriel is either remembering his former glory as an angel or is getting a passing check up from his former, uh, employer and that's the reason for the main light source rather than the bar that Azriel would be frequenting at the moment had I bothered with a background, even though I'm still working on this one. All told, I've put 4 to 4 and a half hours into this so far and it's what I consider a colored sketch.

EDIT: I forgot to add that this was inspired by an image that another FA artist, Rage, had done and uploaded recently.
