Nonsense. A custom character is pretty special, especially when you make it pretty different looking to the original. Patamon was kinda ham-shaped, but this is a lot sleeker and less... round. Plus, Syl has a lot more fur, and just about enough character to be pretty unique. Looks pretty damn special to me.
