It was dark in the alleyway, for out of reach of any light that spilled out from the street behind him. The sound came from atop the building in front of him, the distinct sound of struggling and muffled sounds of a panicking Pokemon. He climbed the fire escape stairs quickly, the sooner he could find out why a ‘mon besides himself would be herein Oreburgh and why it was so afraid, the better.
What Grey had found was, unexpected to say the least; a small starly with a rope caught around its leg. It would flap its wing in a vain attempt to set itself free, causing it to whimper in pain as the rope would tighten even more. Well that explains the noise, the gallade ran over to the starly who knows how long it has been trying to get that rope off? As soon as the starly had noticed Grey it… she started struggling much harder than before; Blast forgot I was wearing a disguise, she probably thinks I’m a trainer. “It’s OK small one! I’m a Pokemon like you, let me cut you loose!” He pushed up his coat sleeve and extended his forearm blade, with a slash the starly flew down onto the concrete in front of Grey.
“T-thank you, whoever you are! I thought I was gonna be stuck up there forever, that’s what I get for trying to visit during the night, it’s way too dark! The starly stammered, shaking out her leg; she looked slightly confused, but grateful. “The name’s Grey, now, if I may ask little bird-“ “Call me Leaf” “Right, Leaf; what is a forest dwelling day time Pokemon like yourself doing in Oreburgh City at night?” It was certainly strange, the only times Grey had ever seen a Pokemon so far from the wilderness was usually from a bad case of chemical tampering or decimation of habitat; which was hopefully not the case. “I… I was going to see if the rumors about the Pokemon near the mine was true, something about it being brought in so the humans can experiment with other burrowing styles.” Leaf was looking down and slightly moving her wings, like she had a hard time believing it herself; though she certainly sounded curious. The news was certainly strange, usually goings on in the cities or ‘human’ areas never interesting those who resided away from them, so obviously there was something very interesting about this ‘mon that the humans had brought to the ‘famous’ Oreburgh Mine.
“If I may ask Leaf, why did you choose to come at night? I mean you shouldn't have to worry about trainers, I mean you can fly. And it isn't like people will find it suspicious that there is a bird in the sky right?” “It’s not the humans I’m Worried about,” Leaf looked down again, shifting from leg to leg, “there were stories of the Pokemon being Violent to anything it thinks belongs to the city or humans, and I was thinking that if I came at night I could get a better look without being knocked out or worse.” She flew up to sit on the long dead cooling unit that sat on the roof. “ I guess you could say I want to be one of the first ‘mons to see it up close” She looked flustered, seeming embarrassed by her selfish wish. Grey looked in the direction of the mine, the building was just tall enough to see it; the area for Pokemon and their trainers blocked from view by the high piles of rock and dirt, as well as the various digging and loading machines that lined the outer area of the Mine. It was hard to believe that any ‘mon would act that way without being locked up or worse in such an area; Grey took most of the information as inflated chatter spread to make stories that were entertaining and not much else.
“Listen Leaf… This is probably a really bad idea, but what do you say to having me tag along? As a sort of” The gallade paused to find the appropriate word, “body guard of sorts? To make sure nothing bad happens to you, just in case.” The starly turned to him, happily flapping her wings “Of course you can! I can even scout out for you to make sure you don’t get caught! This is gonna be so awesome!!” The starly was already in the air and excitedly flying to the Oreburgh Mine, not even pausing to see if Grey was following. He smiled, and started leaping from roof to roof, it was a good thing that they were so close, otherwise it would take him all night to navigate the narrow streets of the sleeping city below.
