A harrier (AV-8B) demonstration is always a treat; especially when you factor in the amount of noise emitted from the Rolls-Royce Pegasus engine. To stay hovering in-place, the pilot is continuously adjusting the throttle by using between 96-98% thrust (hence the noise).
As the plane lifts up into the air, you can clearly see the exhaust spreading out over a large area. The exhaust comes from four nozzles that swivel in unison and allow for vertical take-offs and landings. It can reach speeds of 600mph under normal flight conditions. This model is the upgraded AV-8B Harrier II plus.
