Here we have an airworthy/restored Phantom II undergoing preflight checks prior to its performance later. The jet is designated QF-4E and was originally one of dozens of target drones from Tyndall AFB in Florida. The newly refurbished QF-4s are used for Heritage Flights and aerial displays.
The wing pylons have what is called travel pods attached. They're mainly used to carry the pilot's luggage as well as safety pins and the plane's chalks. The pods weigh about 30 lbs. and are easy to install.
