This was a quick piece done just purely out of love for Jim Henson & Brian Froud's "The Dark Crystal". Whatever the relative merits of the movie itself, which I go back and forth on, there's no denying that the artistry and imagination of the world they created is almost unparallelled in movie history. The gentle Mystics were my favorite beings in this film...and if more time had been devoted to them and less to the squabbling Skeksis, I would have preferred it.

I love that movie so very much! The completely alien world, traditional media and serious story were all really inspirational to me as a kid - well as much as anything was every inspirational to me as a kid - something about it really had that feel of "and you can potentially make something like this" to an extent other films just didn't have.
You certainly used the monochrome tone of the picture to your advantage. Colour-wise, you decided on using the red to bring out his armour, using the blues to accentuate the light. The only other colour I see is the white powder from his hand, the white bringing out from the rest of the picture without standing out too much. Ink-wise, you used a pen that fits with the paper motif of the picture.
I take great notice to your use of textures on the staff, back robes, mane, and face of his. (I even noticed the tiny hair swinging upwards behind his pseudohelmet!) His robes look nicely puffy. I wonder how hard you had worked on the details here.
In all you give an ancient feel to a fantasy setting.
(P.S. This Mystic looks wise and handsome! I really like his mane!)
