For canids, canines included (and I would suppose, Vulpines as well), the half-open muzzle, tongue only slightly over teeth... Yea, that is a smile, flat out. He is giving you that sly fox smile, with a touch of shy with the tail. Almost as if to say, 'see what I can do, I can hide behind my tail!' Hehe...
