Hunted to extinction the last Wild Aurochs (Bos primigenias) died in Poland in 1627. They were the ancestor of our modern cattle.
The Aurochs is in European clothing from the early 1600's. Clothing of the people who hunted it into extinction. This animal used to roam all over Europe now we can only see them in the domesticated incarnation.
The circle in the top border is a view of the Fontana della Barcaccia (or Fountain of the Old Boat)Rome, Italy. Designed by Bernini and completed in 1627. I thought it was an interesting thing to put in, and honestly I couldn't find much from 1627 that I could include visually
