
Sometimes it really baffles me why so many people confuse alligators for crocodiles, and vice versa. So, I took this photo in hopes that it may help those that confuse one species with the other.
As the picture clearly shows, there are quite some vast differences between the species. The most obvious being the fact that an alligator has a "shovel" like muzzle, where the crocodile is far more narrow and pointed. Another is the teeth. Alligators have much more rounded, blunt teeth. Crocodiles are far sharper and more jagged/snaggle toothed. Crocodiles have one bottom tooth on each side that overlaps the upper lip by the nose, roughly an inch from the nostrils. All nile crocodiles have that distinct tooth placement.
