Thara is one of those characters that started out on a whim and evolved into something more.
In the current (final?) draft, Kalvei Sliverpaw first encounters Thara and her two sisters while they are in the service of a shady Nijorn merchant. Shortly afterwards, all four of them disappear under mysterious circumstances. Kalvei would not see her again until they run into each other in the seedy section of a Nijorn trade station. Eager to escape, she jumped aboard the Winter Princess, initially as a passenger but Kalvei eventually convinces her to join as his personal accountant.
Thara is a Calculate, part of a class of biologically modified beings gifted with genius levels of intelligence and mathematical aptitude. Essentially a living super-calculator, the vixen is incredibly "book smart" in subjects like accounting. However, due to equal parts "programming" and embracing of her new freedom, she has a bit of a wild side. One that causes a great deal of initial friction with the dour human Sharon Aurin.
