Ah to thin for my liking and never been a fan of scale mail, love the look but just too ineffective at stopping strikes. Plate, scale and lamellar for me with 1-1.2mm thicknesses.
No wonder they charge so much though, pain in the arse to put together even if the scales are cheap as hell to buy, I mean it costs me like £0.36 for a 1.2mm lamellar plate and thats when buying 1800 units

well scalemail is not designed to take a stright on hit
it's a lighter grade for more mobility
it doesn't give as much protecting against crushing blows
but helps create glancing blows by having blades slide instead
of a solid hit
nowadays it's more of a decoration than anything

But mail (And i mean proper mail, the 16 gauge riveted) can take slices or thrusts and great mobility, Scale and lamellar are far better at taking crushing blows, lamellar best off all mentios on the thrust all that beats it is good plate, maybe a brigande or coat of plates but the gaps between plates can let a thrust in
