Since I had to close down the clear resin option for pendants, I've been keeping my eye open for an alternative to the epoxy resin. Well, I had been playing with the idea that I could cast around a marble, recently gave it a go, and it worked! Well... more or less. It won't work for the dogs or owls, plus the resin doesn't flow well where the funnel is placed in the cat. Most of the time the cast comes out with it's back end missing, which is a pain to repair. For now, (unless of course I've already talked with you on an individual basis), they'll only be available as special pre-paints. With a marble, it takes way more time and material than I like to repair, so I think this summer I'll be re-designing the cat mold to accommodate clear marbles. Once I do that, I'll be able to better calculate costs for the clears.
Until then, I've painted some of the test casts, this one being the first that's up for sale! She comes with her very own black Greek leather cord. I hadn't tried a calico yet, and since calico cats remind me of koi, this pattern seems like it would fit the blue quite well. :)

It's an interesting experience. The safety valve on my pot needs replacing, it springs too early and I can't build good pressure. You also have to pressurize your silicone mold while it's curing or you get little warts on the cast from where the pressure pushes the resin into the bubbles that are in the mold, just beyond the mold wall. So it can be a pain in the butt aw well as a good tool. :>
