For those who find any similarity to another comic a lot like this one, mine came first technically (though I deleted it from this FA account). The link below, however, preexists the comic I am referencing.

I really tore into the guy because of how similar the comic was. But, I am taking him on his word that he's being honest in saying he wasn't plagiarising this comic.
Anyway! Happy trails, kids

I think this is a very easy idea to have for yourself... I mean, it's nothing transgrssive or very original thing. So, I can believe with no problems that two furs can have the same idea without knowing the other's art. If the other artist didn't say he saw it before, it's because he already didn't see it. I'm very sad about the way people acusses other people for stealing art in a case like this where, in my opinion, it's not clear that the plagiarizing has been done...
Also, I prefer the other comic: better execution, draw and everything.
I mean... this looks to me like a kid's tantrum.

Maybe kids I know are better educated.
And he said "They obviously read my comic. They made it over again." and " Thievery is annoying when you don’t even nod at the artist from whom you took the idea."... that don't sound like "amusing anecdote" for me, sounds like acussing someone of plagiarizing without consistent evidence (No, the similitudes are not a consistent evicence for me: Thats a very plane idea that everyone could have).

Hehe, very funny. I hope on his FA he at least credited you for the idea but I kind of doubt it. Your version is much better on all counts.
This almost makes me want to do a variation of my own, but that would require me to work it more to fit me rather than doing a almost straight copy like the other guy. XP

welp, I hope the person that copied it at least credited you somewhere... I mean, was he actively trying to get kudos for himself specifically about it? there are many people that nod off to things they like by copying the pose and whatnot... but I guess that really only applies to celebrity status people >.>
No. He didn't nod. He didn't take art reference. He took the idea, the cadence, and the general point of the whole comic and posted it as an original idea. That's what I find offensive. I don't think I am being a prima donna if I am a little irked that something that came from my ideabook is being passed off as somebody else's
<3 We love you! :D
But this is pretty much exactly the kind of trap I wanted to avoid from the very onset of my foray into furry. I decided then and there I wasn't going to kick around and I would just be completely outward and open about myself from the get go. It's made for a very interesting set of relationships with non-furs, I can tell you that!
Dare I say you seem to have moved well beyond that phase? :)

s i g h yes but with the advent of 9gag and memebase and funnyjunk and all that recognition is a precious resource today. TheOatmeal has an entire section of his site dedicated to it.

The internet's reaching an advent where ownership has become a meaningless concept, perpetrated by PVP and piracy and down with the man rawr. We've got so many ways to share we forget where it comes from, and that fact is taken advantage of for needless and baseless popularity. We no longer respect the creator, but the poster. Originality is increasingly outdated thanks to templates and a body of work big enough to keep niche communities entertained, garnering enough pageviews to get adverts interested. We live in an age where you actually have to battle to prove you did something, regardless of what it was (A'la Pics or it didn't happen), and the basis for proving it being wide enough for anyone to do it. It's a great big oxymoron; the internet is the best way to get recognized, and then immediately stolen.
Wow I just got super philosophical all of the sudden I need some Jersey Shore to calm me down yes that's enough thank you google images yes sorry for

Why did you delete everything anyway?
Were you doing that thing we furries do when we try to leave the fandom for the good of our friendships/jobs/sense of honor but find ourselves crawling back because this fandoms skewed vision of reality/ diversity/ creativity/ cuteness makes returning to life as an ordinary human with an ordinary sense of identity impossible.
Its okay if that's what happened, allot of the good furries do that at least once
God, this fandom is worse the heroin.
BUT I LOVE IT!

Billy I love your stuff just as much now as I ever did. I'm still pouting at you for taking down your gallery in the first place. You're one of my favorite artists here, and you're such a gift to the community. You helped me remember how much I loved cartoons, ever since I would sit in on my dad's cartooning classes as a kid. You're awesome.
Stay gorgeous.

I remember the original submission, and like many others on this website, i can relate to it.
If that other comic didn't get any praise/recognition, would you have been as annoyed? The need to claim ownership of an idea doesn't emerge unless we have something to gain from it.

I think that's partially true. It definitely enters into it.
Plagiarism is a weird subject for me. I have done it unconsciously with a lot of jokes and things I have made. Naively, I thought I came up with the ideas... but usually I did it at least differently enough from the original to not look like I was ripping something of brazenly. I think it was just seeing this comic on tumblr and it having so much of my own structure and cadence in it... well, I just got a little pissed. But I don't think he copied it intentionally. It may have actually been a staggering coincidence that he made it so similar to my comic. But I dunno. It still felt like a rip-off, and yeah, that's petty, but I needed an axe to grind. I have to get my kicks somewhere!

The benefit here is not only praise, but also the joy of coming up with a clever idea. Finding someone who did the exact same thing (whether before you, after you, intentionally or by accident) makes it feel like less of an accomplishment, and that is a downer. What's more annoying is finding those similarities while working on an image... It happened to me multiple times and i've had to do an overhaul so that the drawing doesn't look like a much lamer imitation of the original. Not really necessary, but it's good to maintain some illusion of originality.
