
Here's a pic from when I was working on the power supply from the Atwater Kent Model 43 I recently finished.
I heated it up to around 250 degrees in the oven to soften up the tar so. Then I could dig into the tar and pull out the old capacitors (which you can see in that big glob of stuff). After that was done and everything was cleaned up, I could install the new capacitors in place of the old ones, and all would be well!
As you can imagine, the process is filthy, stinky, and just plain unpleasant!
The next step was to figure out which ones of those wires are which. But in the end, it all came out well, and the power supply worked like a champ!
