Okay, here's what happened. I was reading this Cracked article, and when I got to the Pangolin I was like "D'AAAWWWWW MY FUCKIN' GOD IT'S A TINY SNAKEADILLO" and thought it would be perfect for Ellie's design. It also helped me solve another dilemma I'd been having: I didn't know what the hell to do with Kayla. She's too rage-inducingly adorable to omit from the comic, but at the same time, there's no room for her anywhere. At one stage, I decided she was so squishy that she would replace Ellie as Odie's girlfriend (because he has a thing for squishy mammals) but went back on that because Ellie was just too important. So, I thought "Hey. Merge them! And add some pangolin to the mix!" And that's what happened.
Now Ellie is cuter than ever and I get to fill my adorable goth quota.
