In the distant future, life is different to as we know. Drugs have been outlawed, but in order to get a legal high, competitors sign up to fight for their lives and get high on the sheer adreniline as a result. Often criminals are forced to join as their punishment.

A mixture of lights, music and brutal carnage, battlers are often giving quite a show to the spectators on floating domes, bets often taking place between them. The gems on each competitor's chest is often the only identifying mark.
