RusFurrence 2013, my first attendance, and right away Guest of Honor. Hell's bitches, folks, but it was a ton of fun.
Three hundred Russians and five or so foreigners, marking the first properly international Russian convention, in the white wilderness on the outskirts of Moscow.
A damn nice hotel, with buildings scattered among snow-laden pine trees. It was cold, but comfortably so, and the hotel staff were stunningly effective at clearing the packed snow.
I was thoroughly impressed with the energy, enthusiasm and creativity of the furry community here. There was definitely a language barrier. Many spoke English, some spoke German and the rest were avid drinkers, so we soon overcame that.
The scheduled events were magnificent and innovative. A demonstration of a home-made Tesla coil, a Mysterious Tea and Chocolate Fountain and Muffin evening, a Geological Party and crazy dancing deep into the night. Also a snowball fight in the sauna.
And the room parties. Discretion forbids me from disclosing what I encountered while roaming the halls and listening for the sounds of insanity coming from sleepless rooms, but let me tell you guys, it got really weird, really fast. I drank things that were on fire and there was some flogging at one point, I think.
I loved every second of it.
Thanks to the organisers of RusFurrence for inviting me, to my hosts for getting me there safe and sound, and to the fantastic Rusfurs who immediately made me feel at home!
