His story ain't pretty, someone shot him in the head...
He was an elderly dog and as you can see his teeth were in an awful state. My guess is that the owner didn't have the money to go to the vet, didn't want to spend money or wanted to put his own dog out of his misery. It's sad cause when you look at the angle of the shot, you can see that the dog was looking right at the person who shot him.
I find it sad, but interesting.
Ofcourse I'm just guessing this and I'm not sure if it is true. I did not know the dog or his owners when he was alive. I just bought the skull from a collector and got this story by examining the skull.

story as i read it is, that dog was older adult, poorly taken care of and suffered oral diseases likely gingivitus, but the roots are very firm, so the extra bone growth is likely from chewing a lot. I have never seen canines on a dog like that, they look horribly mishapen and i worked Veterinary for 7 years. but back to the story, the bit of rodent damage does say the skull was found a good while after death. the dog did look at its killer, but from a distance of up to 30m but no closer than 15. this means the owner was likely not the person who shot it., and the dog was alive when shot. it looks like the dog was coming to the person who shot it. the angle as i can see was head up, and even then the person had to have taken a knee to shoot it at that angle.
possible scenario, was a farmers dog, very robust and hard and old, likely was wandering the fields and came on a hunter, a dogs average invader standoff is 15-25m. this was an experienced hunter and made an excellent shot.
but that's what i read.
