Celestial Transformation test and designs collage
A collage of some of the test sketches and designs I did for the Celestial Transformation pic, showing her design and proportions, armor and sword design and the different stages of her transformation.
Wes showed me some pictures of a anthro Princess Celestia dressed in armor (looking very much like the emperor from Warhammer 40000) and asked if I could draw a transformation based on those.
I decided to do my own armor design incorporating the "elements of harmony" from the show as well as Celestia's own sun cutie mark, necklace and tiara.

A lot of the things I know about drawing I learned from books about animation, and those really showed me how important it is to plan ahead and work out designs and details properly first before you start on the actual final artwork.
It means you don't have to do everything at once.
Like with her armor, I hardly ever draw armored characters, so I knew it would be tricky for me,
so I worked out all the details of the armor first before I drew her wearing it.
