The four-ship diamond passes from the right; flaps and landing gear are lower, and the airbrakes are deployed. Thunderbird 5 is also passing from the right, but at a much higher speed. To ensure #5 passes safely, Thunderbirds 1 and 3 will increase their altitude while Thunderbirds 2 and 4 will descend slightly.


Catching a moment like this is never easy; its one of those cases where you have to focus on one plane or group of planes. If the camera you're using as a continuous shooting mode, you can hold down the shutter button and hope that one of the frames captured the result you were looking for.
