Nice! It def. takes a while to go from thinking about building form using line to thinking about building form using value, but I'm sure you'll pick it up quickly as you keep experimenting. For this one, I'd say you've nailed the narrative focal point with that eye, and got some nice texture goin' on. I'd recommend pushing out from the mid-tone envelope, value-wise, to include some darker darks and lighter lights. Not going too contrasty is important, too, but having maybe three major values could be a simple place to start? Looking at the piece in black and white will really help you gauge what values are what (color can throw you off, especially with a purple like that).

Yeah, toggling b&w helped me see I'm really deep into the midtones with a few subtle exceptions. I'll work on that for the next one. Maybe just do a value study first, and then an overpainting. MAYBE. AAHH!!

I'm really glad that people like Kamui exist to provide actual feedback! When I see this I think, "wow that's a fluffy thing, looks really cool, I wanna snuggle it. Also I'm really excited Floe is trying stuff with brushes!"
