People kept asking for a picture of Gen in Dead Space, so here it is. I sort of kludged the armor with minor reference, and the gun was obviously a hack job. Still, I like how the lighting came out and the general look of the card. This is probably from a cutscene so Gen can take her helmet off and gripe at her partner off camera (or get griped at).
I had the most fun with the glowy blue effects from the health readout on the spine. Personally I think that thing is a glue reserve and every time you get hurt it just shoves glue in there to hold you together.

In my crackfic universe, Gen Clarke is more of an artist than an engineer, but that's her hobby and engineering is the drudgery that keeps her bills paid. However, the Markers in this world work something like the Darkness in Alan Wake, feeding off of the psychic energies as well as the physical bodies of their victims. Necromorphs are more than horribly mutated corpses, they are also living nightmares. That's why you occasionally see monsters that look so familiar in some way: squids that dig into corpses' brains and animate them like puppets, horribly emaciated shades, massive, bug-like abominations, crafty alien raptors, and even the necromorph fetuses. Gen may not be the best engineer (just look at that gun she cobbled together out of spare parts), but her exposure to the collective cultural consciousness and the fantastic dreams of society through her art has given her an edge, just enough to stave off the insanity that has turned hardened soldiers into suicidal psychopaths and philosophers into theocratic murderers.
(full disclosure: I've only played through the first part of Dead Space 1 and watched parts of Gen's playthrough of Dead Space 3)
