These are two new rat characters that will make an appearance in the next instalment of my book, over the next year or 2.
These are the first proper pics I've ever done of them, and they both still need tweaking, so excuse the uninspired poses. It’s more an effort to get them onto paper in some form than to create some stunning work of art.
The badly marked black blazed Berkshire with endearing hat ears is called Brixton, and the chocolate agouti rex(ish) dumbo is called Qwerty. As if I needed to even state it, they are Jeeves and Wooster inspired.
Brixton first made an appearance in this deviation: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/897269/
He's been in my head for a long time.
A brief back-story for him is that he was bred by a hobby breeder and was supposed to be a show rat, but, as anyone with a little show rat knowledge can see, that aint a show quality blazed berkie (no white hind feet, no white belly, poor tail colour, hat ears etc) So he was sold instead to a pet home (which is where he meets Qwerty)
He basically works as a servant/valet to Qwerty. He's very eloquent, very well spoken, obsessed with cleanliness and a pristine appearance (his white markings are always bright white, and his coat is always mirror shiny, and I've omitted visible whiskers from his design because it adds to his sleekness), and can be extremely petty over tiny little details. He is also freakishly intelligent.
He is constantly despairing of his master, and has to help him out of trouble on a regular basis. Despite being ordered around by Qwerty, and being happy to obey those orders, he is actually the one in charge in the relationship, but very subtly so.
Without him, Qwerty would not survive, as he is pretty incapable of looking after himself. Brixton plays the role of mild mannered servant, but is very slyly manipulative and uses his wit to get his master to eventually agree to his demands without even realising it.
Qwerty was originally bred as snake food *spit* and like a lot of feeder rats, is seriously inbred. As a result, he’s not the sharpest tool in the box, which is handy for Brixton as it makes it that much easier to manipulate him. Qwerty, however, doesn't see it like that. As far as he is concerned, he's perfectly intelligent, thank you, AND he is DEFINATELY the one in control in the relationship!
Brixton allows him to think this, as it makes life so much easier.
Qwerty was rescued from the feeder bin to come and live as a pet with Brixton.
Qwerty is an air-head, seems to be endlessly high spirited, is very naive, and often makes stupid decisions which Brixton has to try and dissuade him from.
However, this sometimes fails and Qwerty has a real penchant for getting himself into trouble, which Brixton then has to get him out of.
It is Brixton's job to be reserved and take everything with calm good humour. He refers to Qwerty never by name, but only ever by 'sir'.
Qwerty isn't a true rex. He’s one of those rats you come across where they're slightly scruffy with kinda wavy whiskers which suggests they're not a true smooth coat, but he is definitely not 'good' enough to be a proper rex.

Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
I think so, Brain, but then it'd be Snow White and the Seven Samurai...
Quiet Pinky, I'm getting ready for tomorrow night.
Why? What are we going to do tomorrow night?
The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world.
sorry had to be done, excellent back story by the way. Let me know where to find your book please I am most intrigued!
