What a stunning gift this cake is.
djwolf's parents are very lucky. This delectable delight can be made using a homemad cake or a packet cake mix as a base and either way it is a wonder.
The first cake Ive ever baked!
A birthday present for my parents!
Milk chocolate triple layer cake filled with a Chocolate Cherry Ganache filling. Coated with Chocolate Buttercream icing and pipped with Vanilla buttercream Icing. Topped with Maraschino Cherries.
Chocolate cake was just the Standard Store bought Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix. However instead of adding vegetable oil like it says replace the oil with butter but add the same amount as it says to add the oil. This will make for a firmer and moister cake.
The chocolate cherry ganache was as follows:
1 lb of semisweet chocolate chips
2 1/2 cups heavy cream
a drip of Coffee extract to deepen flavor
a drip of Cherry extract for flavor.
- Heat the cream in a sauce pan till boiling.
- pour over the chocolate chips and let sit for 10 minutes.
- use a whisk to stir mixture till throughly combined.
- allow to cool to room temperature.
- when cooled pour ganache into a mixer fitted with a whisk attachment. set to medium and allow to whip till whipped ganache holds texture and lightens in color.
Buttercream Icing:
2 sticks of SALTED butter
1 lb of powdered sugar
tsp of Vanilla
milk.
2 Tbs cocoa powder
Food colorings (preferably a gel form.)
- combine butter suger cocoa powder (for the chocolate version) and vanilla in a mixer till combined and crumbles.
- slowly dribble milk into the mixture till it reaches the right consistency.
Note: its usually a good idea to double the icing recipe when using it to coat the cake itself. when decorating make sure you have enough to do your decorating. so maybe make extra but use your best judgement.
after that you just need piping bags, couplers and icing tips. have fun and be creative!
Hope you enjoy!
Cheers!
I owe a lot of thanks to
teguso and
juno for all the advice they gave me on how to make this! thanks guys!
