It came about due to an RP called Sabra La Tau, where at one point the souls of "old sabrans" temporarily possessed characters, giving them their memories of their old life. Yeah, confusing and wtf, I know, but we had fun with it.
Anyway, this kid here is a half-Vulpeculan called 'Red Rover', named due to his wandering tendencies and his father being a Pyxis (who identify with the color red). Vulpeculans have a tradition, where they send aaaall their ten year old kids out into the plains on a raptor hunt. All the kids that make it back alive are then considered adults. The rest, well, they get eaten by raptors.
When Rover's group went out, he ended up separated from the other kids and trying to hunt down a raptor all by himself. One in particular was dead set on killing him, but they ended up injuring each other and being stuck in a ditch for a while, forcing them to bond. At that point, the gods of Dawn and Dusk appeared to him, offering him a deal to 'meet them all and see them all', so long as he never stopped enjoying life.
Rover agreed, and along with the raptor, became an immortal child wandering the lands of Sabra in search of new things to fight and accidentally murdering a few people too OH WELL. that's what happens when you are raised in a pack of dinosaur killing thugs.
