140 Arches Cold Press
with some Prisma pencils
Rough drawing and pencil art on tumblr.
I've done dozens of drawings and paintings associated with central Washington and its high desert areas, but I'd never painted a coyote. 8< So I painted a coyote before I moved to Baltimore.
In the valley basins, there are all sorts of butterflies. Big yellow and black striped ones, fat white ones, little brown and orange ones that blend in with tree bark. But away from the rivers and marshes, the butterflies get scarce except for one sort that seems to get more plentiful. Blue is a rare color in nature, but these little butterflies have nearly iridescent blue wings. They drift under sage brush shadows and look like pieces of the sky, they seem almost unnatural.

/cry/ Just have to say, it was totally worth it to join Furaffinity because you're more involved here. As in you personally. Thank you a lot for your comment. I would never speak to you on DA, because why even. Trying to meet talented people on DA is a lot like being buried under an avalanche. But here on FA, comments seem like they might actually exist rather than being lost completely. I'm really happy that FA exists, then, and I should have joined a lot sooner.
Admittedly, that's quite true! Since disabling comments on DA, I found it easier for me to reach out and respond to people because there is not such an overwhelming flood. But I did read every comment I got anyway, just can't respond to them all, you know? ;___;
Question! Do you think you will ever offer watercolor paper prints of your work? I would DIE to have a watercolor paper print of this and/or "Inari Fox" someday.

Like a giclee sort of print on watercolor paper? Is that a type of printing you know a lot about? Because it's a thing I'd love to do, but I've researched it only enough to hit a price wall with it.
I've only seen two ways to do a high end print job like that. Go through a printing business that has a huge minimum order and charges ridiculously ... or buy my own printer that would be several hundred dollars + 100$ per group of ink cartridges and would be restricted to a smaller size (13 inches wide.)
I keep thinking there has to be a better way to do this. O_o Is there a secret?
Most of my sales come from doing conventions, so not surprisingly those are impulse buys that are mostly after cheap paper posters. I offer canvas prints, but they don't sell well enough to make me feel like either buying my own printer or bulk ordering high end prints would be worth it.
So yeah. If you know something, tell me what you know. XD
But otherwise ... I'd be totally up for trading paper posters with you? At least I can promise that my paper posters are pretty nice by lame paper poster standards.

I don't know a whole lot about printing, but I do know printing giclee on watercolor paper IS expensive. But it looks DAMN nice, haha! I also find that convention goers like the cheaper stuff, so large cheap poster prints are popular. It's tough because I like high quality large prints when I can buy them, but the market seems to says else wise. It's kind of a mystery on what the best option is. With on-deman sites like society6, you don't get as direct of a cut, but you don't have to do a whole lot to fill the orders, and they're available all the time. Printing them yourself or through a shop requires an upfront cost, time to make them, package and ship them. But you do get a more direct cut from the sales.
For my own prints, I share a printer that my friend owns that makes archival giclee quality prints. They cost a lot to make, but I just pay for my own paper and ink, come over and make a day of hanging out and printing stuff with her. I don't know if Tugrik does prints anymore, but it might be worth asking him? He's been the go-to guy for making high quality prints for artists in the furry fandom for years. The only reason I don't go to him is because I have such a close printer source that's easier to access. Or check out society6 or other print on demand sites! Society6 has god quality prints, and a LOT of artists set up online shop there. I'm in the process of doing so myself.
blahblahprints, I dunno! I'd be up for a trade sometime as well, I'll send you a note soon!

I also wanted to toss an idea out there for getting some more expensive prints made. If you find a service to make watercolor paper giclees, you could do a pre-order run to gather enough money to get them done. Then you know how many you'll be making without having costly extras, and it'll be paid for! I have pre-ordered prints from artists in this manner before, it was worth the wait and the project because the resulting print was fantastic quality.
uhmmhhhhm. It's really hard to say. I think I spent more hours on this than usual. On and off working for 2 or three weeks. Consider also that watercolor painting requires time spent just thinking about color and paint before applying it. So. Really hard to say. But I didn't rush it.
In that case, it sounds kind of like chess. :v
But yeah, I mostly just wanna do "quick" pieces, at the moment. Not sure if that makes sense. I guess "simplistic" would more fit the bill. As in some of the concept art Miyazaki does or the work seen in the graphic novel The Venise Chronicles.
I would love to do more detailed works but at this time, I'd like to start off more simplistic.

you're incredible with watercolor, I read on the last pic I looked at that you used Arches, I have 2 pads of new Arches paper and I could use some tips. I mostly use grumbacher watercolors either tube or cakes (I squeeze the tubes into a palette I found on the Daniel Smith website) I have masking fluid but the rest of my painting mediums are for acrylics not watercolor.
your use of both positive and negative space is mindblowing, I'm still learning to see the world like an artist ;)
