Name of the Tea: Jasmine Phoenix Pearls
Type of tea: Green (floral)
Loose or bagged: Loose
Brand/maker: Adagio
Where to get it: Adadio Teas
Cost: $7 for a 0.8oz sample, or $19 for 3oz. Yes, this tea is a bit pricey, but very worth it if you like floral greens.
Description: This tea is hand rolled, and so looks quite like gunpowder green, only much larger, and lighter in color. Inside each pearl is a little bud of jasmine, which gives both its name and its scent/flavor to the tea. This is a fun tea to watch steep if you have a transparent teapot, because much like a gunpowder, it unfurls and expands.
Smell: Smells like jasmine, both dry and brewed. Absolutely wonderful.
Taste: Tastes like it smells. Less bitter than some other greens I've tried, too, even without sweeteners.
Suggested Sweetener: I use honey for greens. One teaspoon per every teaspoon of dry tea. So for me, two teaspoons per mug.
Overall Summary: Out of my collection of over 70 teas, this one stands out as one of my all time favorites. Again, it's expensive, but it's a must-try for every green tea lover, at least once.
Final Score 1-10: 9.5
